In the Dover, Deal & District Bar Billiards League, the Chequer Inn, Ash retained their title winning their last game against Plough & Harrow B from Bridge, who had been top most of the season. Chequer had won their previous two matches 5-1 & 4-2, so with only one point between the teams before this match, the reigning champions went through the season unbeaten and won 5-1 to secure the title in fine style. Chris Saville (9,490) opened well for the home side with some solid breaks, followed by wins for Neville Potts (5,250) and Tim Bourner (7,200), both against the break, to take a 3-0 lead. The first doubles saw Saville and partner Wack Sampson (4,800) triumph and secure the match win, before the away side hit back through Kevin Kay and John Fullager (6,590). But this turned out to be their only win as Bourner and Saville (6,600) won the last leg with more impressive and timely breaks.
