In the Dover, Deal & District Bar Billiards League, the Spring Cup is under way, in which the top two of each group eventually qualify for semi-final knockouts. The singles are maximum 3000 breaks, but the doubles are played using a triangle to rack the white balls behind the 100 hole for each opening break, resulting in low-scoring but often close games.
In Group A, Betteshanger won 6-0 at home to the Magnet B. They accelerated to a 3-0 lead with singles victories for John Addley (8,860), Wack Sampson (4,400) and Neville Potts (4,100). The doubles followed suit with successes for Sampson & Potts (2,180) and Addley & Sampson (2,760), until a close last leg which saw Potts & Addley edge Dawn Williams & Shirley Cowdrey 1,350-1,120.
The Plough & Harrow A, Bridge drew 3-3 at home to the Brickmakers B. Warren Cowdrey (3,070) put the Brickies ahead, before Plough wins for Baz Symes (6,150) and Ian Dennett (6,640). The doubles saw Warren Cowdrey & Dave Howarth (2,580) and Ricky Cowdrey & Warren Cowdrey (1,650) re-establish the Brickies' lead, before Dennett & Symes (2,280) forced the draw.
The Magnet A drew 3-3 at home to the Royal Oak. Mark Graves (5,810) and Roger Oldfield (5,100) won either side of a magnet success for John Higgens (3,900). Mike Callanan & Higgens (2,010) levelled, Oldfield & Graves (2,080) put the visitors back in front, and finally Lin Callanan & Mike Callanan (1,760) gained the draw.
 
In Group B, the Two Sawyers made a confident start with a 5-1 win at home to the Plough & Harrow A from Tilmanstone. The Woolage Green side swept the singles via Gary Clarke (3,770), Alan Smith (8,630) and Stuart Richardson (3,260), and Richardson & Richard Cousens (1,970) took the first doubles and the match. The Plough’s consolation point came as Ann Keen & Karen Keen (2,110) won, and Clarke & Smith (2,030) took the last leg.
Defending champions Plough & Harrow B from Bridge started with a 4-2 victory away to the Market Inn B. Gareth Butcher (4,660) and Alan Farra (4,000) put the Sandwich side 2-1 up after the singles, with Kevin Kay (4,370) gaining the Plough’s point. The visitors swept the doubles for the match, with wins for Stan Brocklebank & Kay (1,690), John Fullager & Brocklebank (2,300) and Kay & Fullager (3,220).
The Plough & Harrow B from Tilmanstone enjoyed a 4-2 victory at home to the Market Inn A. Harry Pearson (2,690) put the Plough ahead, before Ron Beer edged Derek Latham 2,550-2,430 with a late break for the Plough, and Craig Carlson narrowly defeated Gerald Gilbert 1,900-1,840 for the Market Inn. Beer & Gilbert (1,780) took the first doubles, Carlson & Ted Hogben (1,860) won for the visitors, and Pearson & Beer (2,110) claimed the match victory.
