travelled
to Jersey
for the
annual
championships
there,
known as
the World
Championships,
joining
over 200
hopefuls
from south
England
and the
Channel
Islands.
Chris
Saville
was most
successful,
reaching a
creditable
fourth
round,
having
eliminated
nationally
second-ranked
Stephen
Sheard of
Oxfordshire
in the
third
round. Di
Wellburn
and Ted
Hogben
both
reached
the second
round.
Defending
champion
Trevor
Galliene
of
Guernsey
retained
his title.
First
round
losers at
Jersey go
into a
Plate
Competition,
where
Craig
Carlson
enjoyed an
excellent
run,
losing in
the
quarter-finals
to
eventual
Plate
winner
Alan
Brackenridge
of Sussex.
The World
Pairs
championships
are held
concurrently

tournament,
