In the Dover, Deal & District Bar Billiards Winter League, the Betteshanger Lions continued their impressive start to the season with a 6-0 home win against the Plough & Harrow, Bridge A. Neville Potts (6,560), John Addley (6,330) and Chris Saville (8,850) swept the singles for the home side, and the first doubles saw Addley & Saville (7,850) both score the maximum 2,000 breaks to secure the win. Wack Sampson partnered Saville (4,190) and then Potts (5,010) to secure maximum points for the Betteshanger team.

The Market Inn A defeated the Magnet A 4-2 to remain second. Ted Hogben (3,480) and Derek Latham (3,850) put the home side ahead, before Mike Callanan (12,160) gained a point for the Magnet. Latham & Hogben (3,210) and Craig Carlson & Latham (5,350) took the first two doubles and the match, and Lin Callanan & Mike Callanan beat Hogben & Carlson 4,320-4,290, Lin Callanan potting the last ball down the 200 hole.

The Two Sawyers A enjoyed an excellent 5-1 victory away to defending champions Plough & Harrow B in Bridge. Alan Smith (4,840), Stuart Richardson (6,940) and Gary Clarke (5,100) swept the singles, with further doubles wins for Richardson & Clarke (4,400) and Clarke & Smith (4,840). The Plough’s consolation point came via Kevin Kay & Stan Brocklebank (5,790).

 

In Division Two, leaders Market Inn B were held 3-3 away to the Brickmakers A. Gareth Butcher (4,880) and Alan Farra (4,570) won either side of a Brickies success for Ann Garlinge (1,390). The first two doubles went to the Brickies via Paul Garlinge & Craig Lancaster (2,380) and Ann Garlinge & Paul Garlinge (2,870), leaving Butcher & Farra (3,880) to force the draw.

The Brickmakers B have moved second after a 4-2 win away to the Two Sawyers B. Phil Rye (5,310) put Sawyers ahead, before Brickies victories for Warren Cowdrey (3,090) and Ward Griffiths (1,230). Dave Wiltshire & Jason Merricks (3,230) levelled the tie, but wins for Dave Howarth & Cowdrey (5,900) and Cowdrey & Griffiths (1,920) sealed the match.
