In the Dover, Deal &
District Bar Billiards
League, Betteshanger A
finished their Group A
matches with a 5-1 win away
to the Royal Oak, Nonington.
Roger Oldfield (3,800) put
the home side ahead, but the
visitors hit back with wins
for Wack Sampson (4,670) and
Chris Saville (4,450). The
doubles all went to
Betteshanger as Neville
Potts & Saville (1,110) won
a close game against Nigel
Scott & Mark Graves, and
then Sampson & Saville
(2,420) and Potts & Sampson
(2,620) also won.
Second-placed Two Sawyers
won 5-1 away to the
Brickmakers A. Alan Smith
(3,530), Gary Clarke (1,960)
and Stuart Richardson
(1,900) swept the singles
for Sawyers, and Richard
Cousens & Richardson (1,430)
took the first doubles and
the match. Craig Lancaster
& Chris Gent (1,490) gained
the Brickies point, before
Smith & Cousens (1,890) won
the last leg.
The Plough & Harrow B,
Tilmanstone, won 4-2 at home
to the Brickmakers B,
although it was not enough
to escape the Plate for
Plough. Harry Pearson
(2,270) and Gerald Gilbert
(2,110) won either side of a
Brickies success for Ricky
Cowdrey (2,080). Pearson &
Phil Court (1,640) took the
first doubles, courtesy of a
triangles-break of 1,240 by
Court, and Gilbert & Pearson
(1,610) sealed the match
victory. Warren Cowdrey &
Dave Howarth (1,910) took
the last leg, Cowdrey
hitting a 1,130 break.
In Group B, the Market Inn A
won 4-2 away to the Magnet
B, although it was only
sufficient to finish third.
Derek Latham (1,710), Craig
Carlson (2,000) and John
Skinner (1,410) swept the
singles, before the Magnet
fought back in the doubles
via Shirley Cowdrey & Dawn
Williams (1,510) and
Williams & Donna Prior
(1,290). Ted Hogben &
Skinner (1,650) took the
last leg and the match.
In the semi-finals,
Betteshanger Club A, Two
Sawyers, and the Plough &
Harrow Bridge A and B teams
have all progressed. The
Plate competition will see
semi-finals between the
Plough & Harrow B,
Tilmanstone against the
Magnet B, and the
Brickmakers Arms A will play
the Betteshanger Club B.
