In the Dover, Deal & District
Bar Billiards League, all the
top-two issues have been
decided with one week of the
group phase remaining.
Betteshanger Club A clinched
top spot in Group A with a 4-2
win at home to the Plough &
Harrow B, Tilmanstone.
Betteshanger swept the singles
via Neville Potts (8,600),
Chris Saville (5,200) and Wack
Sampson (4,660). The first
doubles game saw Saville &
Potts (1,980) secure the
overall win, before Gerald
Gilbert & Harry Pearson
(1,650) then Gilbert & Ken
Keen (1,860) won for the
Plough, Gilbert hitting
triangles-breaks of 1,190 and
1,060.
The Two Sawyers saw off the
challenge of Royal Oak with a
5-1 home win to ensure
second-place. Alan Smith
(4,740) and Gary Clarke
(1,680) put Sawyers ahead
before an Oak victory for
Roger Oldfield (3,260). All
the doubles were close with
Sawyers emerging victorious as
Richard Cousens & Stuart
Richardson (1,440), Smith &
Cousens (1,730) and Clark &
Cousens (1,040) all won.
The Market Inn B defeated the
Brickmakers A 4-2. Gareth
Butcher (2,890) put the
Sandwich-side ahead, before
Craig Lancaster (1,850)
levelled. Alan Farra defeated
Paul Garlinge 3,160-3,020
after potting the last ball
down the 200 hole. Dave
Carliell & Farra (2,020) and
Butcher & Carliell (2,860)
ensured the Market victory,
before Lancaster & Chris Gent
(1,960) took the last leg.
Group B saw the Plough &
Harrow A, Bridge win 4-2 away
to the Plough & Harrow A,
Tilmanstone, ensuring a
top-two finish. Keith Symes
(2,630), Baz Symes (2,540) and
Ian Dennett (2,270) swept the
singles, before a Tilmanstone
revival saw doubles successes
for Brian Carpenter & Karen
Keen (2,130) and Ann Keen &
Carpenter (1,930). Baz Symes
& Keith Symes (2,250) took the
last leg and the match.
The Plough & Harrow B, Bridge,
won 5-1 at home to the Magnet
B to also qualify for the
semi-finals. Kevin Kay
(6410), John Fullager (4,710)
and Stan Brocklebank (3,250)
swept the singles for the
Plough, followed by doubles
victories for Fullager & Kay
(2,300) and Kay & Brocklebank
(2,620). Dawn Williams &
Donna Prior won the last leg
1,230-1,170, despite Prior
unfortunately losing a 770
break after the bar had
dropped.
