In the Dover, Deal & District Bar
Billiards League, Group A leaders
Betteshanger Club A were pegged-back
to a 3-3 draw away to the Market Inn
B. Chris Saville (2,500) gave
Betteshanger the lead, before Alan
Farra defeated Neville Potts
2,760-2,580 and Gareth Butcher
(1,940) also won to put Market
ahead. Dave Carliell & Farra
(2,030) made it 3-1, but
Betteshanger rallied via Wack
Sampson & Saville (3,580) and
Saville & Potts (2,090) to force the
draw.
The Royal Oak defeated Plough &
Harrow B, Tilmanstone, 4-2 in
Nonington. Ken Keen (1,650) and
Gerald Gilbert (3,770) put the
visitors 2-0 up, before Roger
Oldfield (1,940) took the last
singles. All the doubles and the
match went to the Oak via Nigel
Scott & Mark Graves (1,770), Graves
& Steve Lake (2,500) and Oldfield &
Graves (3,170), Graves hitting a
1,970 traingles-break in the latter.
The Brickmakers A lost 5-1 to the
Brickmakers B in Deal. Warren
Cowdrey (1,630), Dave Howarth
(2,560) and Ricky Cowdrey (3,170)
swept the singles, and Ricky &
Warren Cowdrey (1,570) took the
first doubles and the match for the
B. Paul Garlinge & Chris Gent
(1,700) gained the A’s point, with
Howarth & Ricky Cowdrey (2,270)
competing the fixture.
In Group B, the Plough & Harrow B,
Bridge won 4-2 away to the Plough &
Harrow A, Tilmanstone to remain
top. Stan Brocklebank (2,870), John
Fullager (5,360) and Kevin Kay
(4,470) swept the singles, before a
Tilmanstone comeback via Ann Keen &
Brian Carpenter (2,230) and
Carpenter & Karen Keen (2,370). Kay
& Brocklebank (3,130) took the final
leg for the match victory.
Betteshanger B won 4-2 at home to
the Magnet B to move second. John
Higgens (2,680), Luke Smith (2,800)
and Bill Edwards (5,420) took the
singles, and Dave Mackay & Higgens
(1,600) the first doubles and the
match for Betteshanger. Dawn
Williams & Donna Prior (1,230) and
Prior & Shirley Cowdrey (1,660) took
last two legs for the Magnet.
The Plough & Harrow A, Bridge won
4-2 at home to the Market Inn A.
Derek Latham (5,300) put the
visitors ahead, before Plough
successes for Keith Symes (7,070)
and Ian Dennett (9,060). Keith
Symes & Dennett (1,840) and Baz
Symes & Keith Symes (2,430) won two
close doubles for the match, with
Craig Carlson & Latham (1,860)
gaining the last leg.
