Billiards League,
The Betteshanger Club A side
strengthened their lead at the top
of Group A with a 5-1 win at home to
the Royal Oak,
Nonington. Betteshanger swept the
singles with wins for Wack Sampson
(3,000), Chris Saville (10,310) and
Neville Potts (5,620). In the
doubles Sampson & Saville (2,780)
and Potts & Sampson (2,700) put
Betteshanger 5-0 ahead, before the
Oak avoided a whitewash as Roger
Oldfield and Nigel Scott (2,850) won.
The Two Sawyers defeated the
Brickmakers A 4-2 in Woolage Green.
Alan Smith (7,770), Gary Clarke
(5,890) and Stuart Richardson
(3,120) took the singles, before
Chris Gent & Craig Lancaster edged
Smith & Richard Cousens 1,570-1,500
for a Brickies point. Clarke &
Cousens (1,240) ensured the match
victory, and Paul Garlinge & Gent
(2,130) gained a second point for
the visitors.
The Brickmakers B defeated Plough &
Harrow B, Tilmanstone 4-2 in Deal.
Ricky Cowdrey (2,110) and Warren
Cowdrey (3,640) won, either side of
a Plough victory for Gerald Gilbert
(1,790). Warren Cowdrey & Dave
Howarth (1,790) took the first
doubles, Ken Keen & Gilbert (1,810)
gained the Plough’s second point,
and Ricky Cowdrey & Warren Cowdrey
(2,600) sealed the match.
In Group B, the Plough & Harrow B,
Bridge, defeated Betteshanger B 4-2
to open a 10-point lead. John
Fullager (5,290), Kevin Kay (1,780)
put Plough ahead, before Billy
Edwards (6,960) won for
Betteshanger, courtesy of a 5,320
break. Stan Brocklebank & Fullager
(2,130) took the first doubles,
Edwards & Dave Mackay (2,020) kept
Betteshanger in the match, before
Kay & Brocklebank (2,050) completed
the victory.
The Market Inn A move second after
defeating the Magnet B 6-0. Derek
Latham edged Donna Prior
1,990-1,810, with further successes
for Craig Carlson (2,040) and John
Skinner (2,640). Although close
matches, the Market also took the
doubles via Skinner & Carlson
(1,830), Carlson & Latham (2,690)
and Latham & Skinner (2,200).
