In the Dover, Deal & District Bar
Billiards League, The Betteshanger
Club A side maintained top spot in
Group A with a 5-1 win away at the
Plough & Harrow, Tilmanstone. All
three singles were won by the visitors
as Wack Sampson (2,040), Chris Saville
(3,030) and Neville Potts (3,910) all
won. Ian Jamieson & Gerald Gilbert
(2,030) took the first doubles for the
home side, but the visitors stopped
any comeback with wins by Sampson &
Saville (2,300) then Potts & Sampson
(1,460).
The Royal Oak and the Two Sawyers drew
3-3 and remain third and second-placed
respectively. Steve Lake (1,920) won
for the Oak, before Alan Smith edged
Nigel Scott 1,760-1,650 and Gary
Clarke 1,990 won to put the Two
Sawyers 2-1 up. Richard Cousens &
Stuart Richardson (1,360) made it 3-1,
but Oak victories for Roger Oldfield &
Mark Graves (1,950) and Scott &
Oldfield (1,810) forced the draw.
The Brickmakers A and the Market Inn B
drew 3-3 in Deal. Craig Lancaster
(1,240) put the Brickies ahead, before
Market successes for Alan Farra
(3,620) and Gareth Butcher (2,280).
Chris Gent & Ann Garlinge (1,450)
levelled, Farra & Butcher (2,830)
regained the Market lead, and finally
Ann Garlinge & Paul Garlinge (1,700)
won to gain the draw.
In Group B, top played bottom as
leaders Plough & Harrow B, Bridge won
5-1 away to the Magnet B. Kevin Kay
(3,380), Stan Brocklebank (4,670) and
John Fullager (5,160) swept the
singles, and Fullager & Kay (1,980)
took the first doubles and the match.
Donna Prior & Dawn Williams beat Kay &
Brocklebank 1,380-1,130, Williams
finishing with a well-worked 300 to
clinch the leg, and Brocklebank &
Fullager (2,060) won the final game.
