In the Dover, Deal & District Bar
Billiards League, Group A, Betteshanger
A overcame local rivals Brickmakers B
5-1 to remain top. Wack Sampson
(5,360), Neville Potts (5,780) and Chris
Saville (3,050) took the singles for
Betteshanger. Warren Cowdrey & Dave
Howarth (2,410) gained the first doubles
for the Brickies, before further
Betteshanger successes for Sampson &
Saville (2,390) and Potts & Sampson
(2,890).
The Two Sawyers are close-second after
defeating the Plough & Harrow B,
Tilmanstone, 4-2 in Woolage Green. Alan
Smith (3,250) and Stuart Richardson
(3,630) won either side of a Plough
victory for Gerald Gilbert (2,090).
Some close doubles saw Smith & Richard
Cousens win 1,280-1,120, Gary Clarke &
Cousens secure the match with a 570-290
victory, and Gilbert & Ken Keen win
1,310-1240 for the Plough’s second
point.
The Royal Oak enjoyed a 4-2 win away to
the Market Inn B. Gareth Butcher put
the Market ahead, before Oak wins for
Steve Lake (1,990) and Roger Oldfield
(2,490). Oldfield & Mark Graves (1,820)
and Graves & Lake (1,580) secured the
match victory, and Christine Farra &
Alan Farra (1,570) took the last leg for
the home side.
In Group B, the Plough & Harrow B,
Bridge beat the Market Inn A 4-2 to move
top. Chris Cook (6,280), John Fullager
(7,820) and Kevin Kay (5,490) swept the
singles, and Kay & Fullager (3,680)
secured the match, Kay hitting a
triangles-rules 2,650 break. John
Skinner & Derek Latham (3,740) took the
Market’s point courtesy of a 1,700 break
from Latham, with Fullager & Cook
(2,530) taking the last leg.
The Plough & Harrow A, Tilmanstone, and
the Betteshanger B drew 3-3. Ron Beer
(3,160), Ann Keen (2,040) and Brian
Carpenter (2,170) took the singles for
the Plough, but a Betteshanger-comeback
in the doubles saw them take all three
via Bill Edwards & Dave Mackay (1,620),
Luke Smith & Edwards (1,270) and Mackay
& Smith (1,960) to force the draw.
