In the Dover, Deal & District Bar Billiards
League, Group A, the game between the Two
Sawyers at Woolage Green and the
Betteshanger Club A side ended in a 3-3
draw.
The home side started well as first Gary
Clarke (2,860) and then Alan Smith (5,690)
put them 2-0 ahead, but Chris Saville
(9,490) continued his good form as he pulled
one back for the Betteshanger side. The
doubles games were all very close matches,
as Potts & Wack Sampson (1,640) drew the
match level, then Clarke & Richard Cousens
(2,100) put the home side ahead again, and
finally Sampson & Saville (1,300) won the
last game when Sampson made a key last break
and potted the last ball to ensure a share
of the points.
The Market Inn A enjoyed a 5-1 home win
against the Brickmakers Arms B. Gareth
Butcher (4,980), Dave Carliell (2,890) and
Alan Farra (4,040) swept the singles for the
Sandwich side, but the first doubles saw
Ward Griffiths & Dave Howarth edge Butcher &
Carliell 1,460-1.450. Farra & Butcher
(2,680) sealed the match, courtesy of a
triangles-fettered 910 break from Butcher.
Carliell & Farra (2,360) took the final leg
to finish the evening.
In Group B, the Plough & Harrow A,
Tilmanstone completed a stunning 5-1 home
victory against the Market Inn A. Karen
Keen (2,840), Ann Keen (4,850) and Brian
Carpenter (1,880) took the singles for the
Plough, and the match was sealed in the
first doubles as Carpenter and Karen Keen
beat Derek Latham & Craig Carlson 1,800-1710
with the last ball. Carlson & John Skinner
(2,070) gained the Market Inn’s point in the
next doubles, but Ann Keen & Carpenter
(2,040) took the last leg.
