In the Dover, Deal & District Bar
Billiards League, the Chantry Club are
champions for the sixth successive year
after beating the Two Sawyers 4-2. Kevin
Kay (8.370) and Chris Cook (5,540) won
either side of a Sawyers success for Alan
Smith (5,620). Kay & Cook (5,910) and
Cook & Stan Brocklebank (4,530) sealed the
match victory, with Smith & Stuart
Richardson (5,520) taking the last leg for
the visitors. This result condemns the
Two Sawyers to bottom place in Division
One.
The Royal Oak won 4-2 at home to the
Plough & Harrow, Bridge. Roger Oldfield
(2,490) and Mark Graves (1,950) won for
the Nonington side, before Keith Symes
(2,030) narrowed the deficit. Ian Dennett
& Baz Symes (4,530) levelled, but Steve
Lake & Oldfield (2,650) and Nigel Scott &
Lake (4,800) gained the overall win.
After this, the Plough finish third,
leaving Betteshanger A as runners-up.
The Magnet A and The Market Inn A enjoyed
a 3-3 draw in Deal. John Higgens (2,640)
and Mike Callanan (6,980) put the Magnet
2-0 up, before Derek Latham (6,980) won
for the visitors. Craig Carlson & Latham
(4,700) levelled, and John Skinner &
Carlson beat Lin Callanan & Mike Callanan
3,050-3,020, Skinner sinking the last ball
down the 100. Mike Callanan & Higgens
(4,090) took the final leg to force the
draw.
In Division Two, Betteshanger B are
champions after a 3-3 draw away to the
Plough & Harrow A, Tilmanstone. Ann Keen
(3,760) and Karen Keen (2,290) put the
Plough ahead, before Luke Smith edged
Brian Carpenter 1,680-1,600. Carpenter &
Ann Keen (3,640) took the first doubles,
but Betteshanger rallied via Smith & Bill
Edwards (2,440) and Dave Mackay & Smith
(3,650) to gain the draw and the title.
The Market Inn B and the Brickmakers B
drew 3-3 in Sandwich, leaving the Brickies
runners-up and the Market third-placed.
Warren Cowdrey (2,650) and Dave Howarth
(2,200) put the Brickies ahead, before
Alan Farra (2,990) and Farra & Gareth
Butcher (4,040) levelled. Butcher & Dave
Carliell (5,250) continued the winning
sequence, before Cowdrey & Howarth (3,390)
forced the draw.
The Brickmakers A defeated the Magnet B
5-1 in an all-Deal match. Dawn Williams
(1,610) put the Magnet in front, before
Brickies successes for Chris Gent (1,560)
and Paul Garlinge (2,090). All the
doubles went to the Brickies via Garlinge
& Craig Lancaster (2,150), Lancaster &
Gent (1,950) and Gent & Garlinge (2,070).
