In the Dover, Deal & District Bar Billiards
League,
second-placed Plough & Harrow from Bridge
won 5-1 at home to the Market Inn A to close
the gap at the top. The Plough swept the
singles via Baz Symes (7,770), Keith Symes
(5,840) and Ian Dennett (6,540), plus the
first two doubles, the second by Keith Symes
& Dennett (5,490). Ted Hogben & Derek
Latham snatched the last leg 3,650-3,560 for
a deserved point for the visitors.
The Magnet A side suffered a home defeat
against a rampant Betteshanger side
6-0 in this week's matches. The visitors
won all of the singles matches, as both
Neville Potts (4,190) and Chris Saville
(6,650) both won their games from behind
with decisive late breaks, Saville in
particular style as his unfinished break of
5,420 pipped an unlucky Mike Callanan.
Between these games was Wack Sampson's
(4,960) continued good form to take the
visitors to a 3-0 lead. The doubles games
saw some excellent form and high scoring
from the visiting
Betteshanger team with wins for Sampson &
Potts (5,550) and Saville & Sampson (6,410),
but with the maximum 2k break in place for
these games, the score of 8,200 for Potts &
Saville was the most impressive, as the
visitors
gained all the points in this League One
clash.
The Royal Oak, Nonington and The Two Sawyers
enjoyed a 3-3 draw, played at Woolage
Green. Mark Graves (2,480) put the Oak
ahead, before Stuart Richardson (3,380) and
Richard Cousens (2,600) fought back. Graves
& Steve Lake (4,480) levelled, Alan Smith &
Cousens (3,590) regained the Sawyers lead,
and lastly Roger Oldfield & Lake (2,270)
forced the draw.
In Division Two, leaders Brickmakers B lost
4-2 away to the Plough & Harrow A in
Tilmanstone. Ann Keen (3,630), Ron Beer
(1,970) and Brian Carpenter (1,690) to give
the Brickies a nightmare start, but Dave
Howarth & Warren Cowdrey (4,220) took the
first doubles. Keen & Beer (3,300) secured
the match for the Plough, before Warren
Cowdrey & Rick Cowdrey (2,040) took the last
leg.
Betteshanger B beat the Magnet B 4.5-1.5,
and are second with a game in hand. Dave
Mackay (1,610), Bill Edwards (3,160) and
Luke Smith (4,220) took the singles, and
Smith & Edwards (5,530) secured the match.
Dawn Williams & Shirley Cowdrey drew
1010-1010 with Mackay & Smith, and Cowdrey &
Donna Prior (2,170) won the last leg.
