In the Dover, Deal & District Bar
Billiards League, The Betteshanger
team came back from 3-0 down against
the league leaders, Chantry Club from
Canterbury, to force a 3-3 draw.
All three singles matches were won
convincingly by the away team, Kevin
Kay (5,130) beat Wack Sampson thanks
to a late break of 2,750, whilst John
Fullager (8,900) took a liking to the
table to win his game thanks to two
large breaks. In the last singles game
Stan Brocklebank (5,060) played well
to defeat Chris Saville to give the
visitors a 3-0 lead. The home team
rallied well in the doubles with some
exceptional scoring in the 2,000
maximum break rules games, started by
Neville Potts & Saville (5,460) and
then Saville & Sampson (5,140). The
last tense game was won well by
Sampson & Potts (4,650) to complete
the comeback and take a deserved
share of the points.
The Market Inn A enjoyed a 4-2 home
win against the Royal Oak from
Nonington. Craig Carlson (7,260) and
Derek Latham (2,620) put the Sandwich
side ahead, before Mark Graves (3,010)
won for the Oak. John Skinner &
Carlson (2,260) and Carlson & Latham
(4,790) secured the victory, with
Graves & Nigel Scott (4,200) picking
up the last leg.
The Two Sawyers drew 3-3 with the
Magnet A from Deal, leaving the
Woolage Green team bottom. Alan Smith
(5,900) and Gary Clarke (2,320) won
for Sawyers, with John Higgens (1,730)
taking the final singles. Mike
Callanan & Higgens (4,290) levelled,
Lin Callanan & Mike Callanan (4,060)
put the Magnet in front, before
Richard Cousens & Stuart Richardson
(2,510) forced the draw.
In Division Two, leaders Brickmakers B
beat the Brickmakers A 4-2 in Deal.
Paul Garlinge (2,750) put the A in
front, before Warren Cowdrey (2,310)
and Rick Cowdrey (3,160) reversed the
advantage. Warren & Rick Cowdrey
(2,980) took the first doubles, Ann
Garlinge & Chris Gent (2,230) won for
the A, and Dave Howarth & Warren
Cowdrey (3,030) secured victory for
the B.
The Plough & Harrow B, Tilmanstone,
won 4-2 at home to the Market Inn B.
Phil Court (3,370) and Gerald Gilbert
(2,710) put the Plough ahead, before
Alan Farra (2,800) won for the
Market. Dave Carliell & Farra (1,420)
levelled, before Plough successes for
Court & Gilbert (4,000) and Gilbert &
Ian Jamieson (2,840).
The Magnet B drew 3-3 with Plough &
Harrow A in Deal. Ann keen (4,940)
put the visitors ahead, before Magnet
wins for Donna Prior (2,660) and Dawn
Williams (840). Ann Keen & Brian
Carpenter (3,690) levelled, Shirley
Cowdrey & Prior (1,620) regained the
magnet lead, and Karen Keen & Ann Keen
(3,630) forced the draw.
