In the bar billiards Summer League, the
Plough & Harrow B from Tilmanstone won 4-2
at home to the Brickmakers Arms B to move
clear in second place. Brian Whitley
(3,130) won courtesy of a 1,600 break,
Harry Pearson (2,670) increased the Plough
lead after hitting a 1,610 break, and
Gerald Gilbert (2,240) completed the
clean-sweep of the singles, most of his
score coming from a 1,860 break. Whitley
& Gilbert (4,010) took the first doubles
to ensure the match victory, but Steve
Philpott & Dave Howarth (3,030) won,
followed by a success for Howarth & Ricky
Cowdrey (2,550) in the final frame to earn
the Brickies a couple of points.
The Brickmakers Arms A from Deal beat the
Plough & Harrow A 4-2 at home. Ann
Garlinge edged Brian Carpenter
1,720-1,600, followed by further Brickies
wins for Paul Garlinge (1,970) and Chris
Gent (2,010). Ann Garlinge & Paul
Garlinge (2,080) took the first doubles
and the match, leaving Ron Beer & Ann Keen
(2,760) and Carpenter & Beer (1,330) to
pick up consolation points for the Plough.
As a consequence of these results, the
Market Inn (without playing) have edged to
within 1 point of the Summer League title,
with two rounds of matches remaining.
