In the bar billiards Summer League, the Market
Inn from Sandwich beat the Brickmakers Arms A
6-0, and are now within touching distance of the
title. Derek Latham (2,410) took the first leg,
Gareth Butcher beat Craig Lancaster 2,210-1,860
after a late rally, and Craig Carlson (8,090)
completed the singles successes. Latham & Dave
Carliell edged Chris Gent and Lancaster
3,220-2,840 in the first doubles, followed by
more wins, the last for Carlson & Butcher
(4,990). The Market Inn now have a couple of
weeks break before the final round of matches
when they will need at most 1 or 2 points.
In Tilmanstone, the Plough & Harrow B beat their
A team 4-2, and remain in second place. Gerald
Gilbert (1,410) and Harry Pearson (2,180) both
won for the B, either side of an A victory for
Ron Beer (2,500). Gilbert & Pearson (4,540)
took the first doubles, and Brian Whitley &
Gilbert (4,150) secured the bonus points. In
the last leg, Ann Keen & Beer beat Pearson &
Whitley 3,210-3,120, after Beer hit a late 1,400
break and sank the last ball down the 200 to
win.
The Magnet A won 4-2 away to the Brickmakers
Arms B to remain third in the table. Dave
Howarth (1,830) won for the Brickies, and Steve
Philpott edged Mike Callanan 2,220-2,140 for
2-0. Lin Callanan (1,200) took the last singles
for the Magnet. A complete turnaround in the
doubles saw Magnet successes for Mike Callanan &
John Higgens (5,150), Higgens & Lin Callanan
(1,880) and Lin Callanan & Mike Callanan (4,920)
for the match victory.
