The bar billiards Summer League saw the
leaders Market Inn succumb to a 4-2 away
defeat at the Plough & Harrow B, Tilmanstone.
Gerald Gilbert (4,690) and Brian Whitley
(2,540) both won for the Plough, with Craig
Carlson (3,090) taking the last singles for
the visitors. Whitley & Gilbert (3,710)
took the first doubles, Ted Hogben & Dave
Carliell (2,620) gained another point for
the Market Inn, and finally Gilbert & Harry
Pearson edged Derek Latham & Carliell
2,930-2,900, Pearson sinking the 200 for
victory.
Another surprise saw challengers Magnet A
lose 4-2 at home to the Plough & Harrow A in
Deal. Ron Beer (3,050) and Ann Keen (3,790)
were both successful for the Plough, and
Mike Callanan (2,930) won for the Magnet.
Beer & Keen edged Mike Callanan & John
Higgens 2,640-2,430, and Keen & Brian
Carpenter (1,890) secured the match, before
Higgens & Lin Callanan (3,230) gained the
last leg.
The Brickmakers Arms A beat the Magnet B 5-1
in an all-Deal match. Ann Garlinge (1,390)
won for the Brickies, Dawn Williams (2,140)
levelled, and Paul Garlinge (2,390) restored
the lead for the Brickies. Chris Gent & Ann
Garlinge edged Carl Williams & Shirley
Cowdrey 1,910-1,820, with further Brickies
successes for Ann & Paul Garlinge (1,380)
and Paul Garlinge & Gent (1,770).
In a rearranged fixture on Wednesday, the
Market Inn won 5-1 away to the Magnet B.
Donna Prior beat Derek Latham 1,950-1,670
for the Magnet B, before Gareth Butcher beat
Shirley Cowdrey 2,040-1860, Butcher
recovering from a 600 point deficit at the
end. Craig Carlson (2,780) took the final
singles. Ted Hogben & Latham defeated
Williams & Cowdrey 1,700-1,600 needing the
final 100 shot, and the final games also
went to the Market Inn via Carlson & Hogben
(2,160) and Butcher & Dave Carliell (1,750).
