With the leaders of the Summer League, the Market
Inn, having a bye, it was a chance for the other
teams to make ground. Third-placed Magnet A from
Deal impressed most with a 5-1 win away to
second-placed Plough & Harrow B in Tilmanstone.
John Higgens (2,470) put the Magnet A ahead, but
Harry Pearson (1,610) levelled after Lin Callanan
black-pegged needing the final ball down the 200 to
win. Mike Callanan (3,030) restored the Magnet’s
lead, followed by doubles victories for Mike
Callanan & Higgens (2,890), Higgens & Lin Callanan
(3,380) and Lin Callanan & Mike Callanan (2,650).
In
an all-Brickmakers Arms clash, the B team won
comprehensively 5-1 against the A to earn pub
bragging rights. Warren Cowdrey (1,810), Dave
Howarth (3,300) and Rick Cowdrey (3,070) took the
singles for the B, and Rick & Warren Cowdrey (1,980)
teamed-up to take the first doubles and the match.
Warren Cowdrey & Howarth (2,320) also won the
penultimate leg, before Ann Garlinge & Craig
Lancaster (2,720) gained a little pride for the A in
the last game.
The Plough & Harrow A from Tilmanstone won 6-0 away
to the Magnet B, to earn their first win of the
Summer League. Brian Carpenter (2,150), Ron Beer
(2,780) and Ann keen (2,580) swept the singles, and
Carpenter & Keen (3,130) secured the match victory.
The final two doubles also went to the Plough, Keen
& Beer (3,120) wrapping up the evening.
