Summer
League leaders Market Inn from Sandwich won 4-2 away to
the Brickmakers Arms A in Deal. Ann Garlinge edged
Craig Carlson 1,490-1,430 to put the Brickies ahead,
before Derek Latham (4,910) and Ted Hogben (2,800) won
for the visitors. Carlson & Latham (3,260) made it 3-1
in the first doubles, but Paul Garlinge & Chris Gent
(3,070) pulled a point back for the Deal team. Dave
Carliell & Hogben defeated Craig Lancaster & Gent
2,250-1,830 in the last leg for the match victory.
In a
Tilmanstone pub derby, the Plough & Harrow B beat the
Plough & Harrow A 5-1 to maintain second-place. Gerald
Gilbert (3,970), Brian Whitley (2,060) and Harry Pearson
(3,760) completed a clean-sweep of the singles for the
B, Gilbert hitting breaks of 1,720 and 1,890 and Pearson
1,760 in their respective games. Ron Beer & Brian
Carpenter took the first doubles 2,410-2,150 for the A,
before Gilbert & Pearson (2,920) and Whitley & Gilbert
(2,610) completed the match victory.
In an
all-Deal affair, the Magnet A drew with the Brickmakers
Arms B 3-3. Warren Cowdrey (2,210) and Ricky Cowdrey
(4,390) both won for the Brickies, and Dave Howarth
edged John Higgens 3,250-3,040 to complete a clean-sweep
of the singles. In a complete turn-around all the
doubles went to the Magnet A, as Lin Callanan & Mike
Callanan (7,530), Higgens & Lin Callanan (3,950) and
Ward Griffiths & Lin Callanan (1,680) were all
victorious to force the draw
