The
Market Inn continued their impressive start to the Summer
League with a 5-1 win away at the Magnet A in Deal. Ted
Hogben (2,290) beat Ward Griffiths after Griffiths
black-pegged needing the 200 to win. Derek Latham
defeated John Higgens 4,170-3,470, and Craig Carlson
(4,310) completed a singles clean-sweep for the Sandwich
side. Hogben & Latham (4,620) followed by Carlson & Dave
Carliell (3,020) took the first two doubles, while Higgens
& Lin Callanan (2,920) won the last leg for the Magnet A.
The
Plough & Harrow B, Tilmanstone, are second after a 5-1
home victory against the Magnet B. Gerald Gilbert (2,530)
won for the Plough, Phil Court edged Shirley Cowdrey
1,990-1,920, and Harry Pearson (1,700) completed a
clean-sweep of the singles. A close 2,250-2,040 win for
Gilbert & Court against Dawn Williams & Cowdrey sealed the
match victory, before a deserved point for Cowdrey & Donna
Prior (1,910). Pearson & Gilbert (2,990) took the final
leg.
The
Brickmakers Arms B from Deal enjoyed a 5-1 home win
against the Plough & Harrow A, Tilmanstone. Warren
Cowdrey (1,670) and Ricky Cowdrey (2,530) both won for the
Brickies, before Ann Keen (3,330) gained a point for the
Plough. All three doubles were close but went the way of
the Brickies as Ricky Cowdrey & Dave Howarth edged Keen &
Ron Beer 2,670-2,550, Howarth & Warren Cowdrey just beat
Brian Carpenter & Keen 1,950-1,710, and finally Warren
Cowdrey & Ricky Cowdrey saw off Beer & Carpenter
1,430-1,270.
