Herewith the
Dover, Deal & District Bar Billiards League report for this week:-
Results:
Challenge Cup
Semi finals: Betteshanger 9,400 Brickmakers 7,870. Greyhound
10,370 P&H Bridge 5,630.
In the Dover,
Deal & District bar billiards league, both Challenge Cup semi
finals were played during the week. The format for all games
features triangles rules – breaks to be played with the ball
placed in a triangle behind the 100 hole. The matches feature 3
singles, a mixed doubles and an open doubles. The matches are
decided on aggregate scores, rather than legs won.
In the first
match, played at the Magnet in Deal, the Betteshanger Alma Lions
progressed to the final with a narrow victory over the Brickmakers
Arms, Deal. All the games were close, but a decisive mixed
doubles win, 2,520-500 by Neville Potts & Shirley Cowdrey over
Ricky Cowdrey & Dawn Williams, proved key as the Betteshanger side
won the overall match by 1,530 points. After four of the five
games the Betteshanger lead was 1,710, but Chris Saville & Wack
Sampson overcame a spirited effort by Dave Howarth & Warren
Cowdrey to ensure the victory.
The other semi
saw a convincing 10,370-5,630 victory for the Greyhound from
Sandwich against the Plough & Harrow from Bridge. The opening
mixed doubles saw Gareth Butcher & Chris Farra defeat Ann Keen &
Baz Symes 1,990-1,530, followed by a decisive win for Alan Farra
2,610-1,210. The Greyhound team took all three remaining legs
too, the last 2,240-750 by Dave Carliell & Alan Farra against
Keith Symes & Ian Dennett.
The final will
be played on the league’s finals night at Betteshanger Sports &
Social Club on Tuesday 8th May.
