In Group A,
the Betteshanger Alma Lions were held 3-3 at home by the
Greyhound. Alan Farra defeated Wack Sampson 6,240-4,130 for the
Sandwich side, but Neville Potts (8,770) and Chris Saville
(8,500) hit back for Betteshanger. The Greyhound took the first
two doubles via Dave Carliell & Alan Farra (2,450) and Christine
& Alan Farra (3,340), and Saville & Sampson (2,390) won the last
leg to force the draw.
The Market Inn
remain second a winning 4-2 away to the Plough & Harrow A,
Tilmanstone. Craig Carlson (4,300) and Derek Latham (5,470) put
the Sandwich side 2-0, before Ron Beer edged John Skinner
1,540-1,440. Carlson & Latham (1,350) and Skinner & Carlson
(2,130) wrapped up the victory, with Ann Keen & Beer (1,820)
taking the Plough’s second point.
The
Brickmakers B defeated the Royal Oak 5-1. Warren Cowdrey
(3,210) won for the Brickies, Dave Howarth edged Gary Clarke
3,180-3,160 with a 200 last-ball winner, and Ricky Cowdrey
(4,390) made it 3-0. Ricky & Shirley Cowdrey (1,800) and
Shirley Cowdrey & Howarth (1,770) continued the Brickies
success, with Alan Smith & Richard Cousens (1,750) taking the
last leg for the Oak.
In Group B,
the Plough & Harrow Bridge were held 3-3 in Deal by the Magnet A
to have their lead cut. Ian Dennett beat Lin Callanan
1,210-1,190, before Magnet victories for Mike Callanan (5,460)
and John Higgens (4,650). Keith Symes & Dennett (1,790) and
Dennett & Baz Symes (2,270) put the Plough ahead, but Mike
Callanan & Ward Griffiths took the last leg 1,160-1,110 to force
the draw.
The Chantry
beat the Fitzwalter Arms 4-2 in Canterbury. John Fullager
(10,310) and Kevin Kay (4,770) won for the Chantry, Roger
Oldfield (3,320) did so for the Fitz. Kay & Fullager (2,790)
and Fullager & Stan Brocklebank (1,330) ensured the match
victory, with Oldfield & Steve Lake (2,520) winning the last leg
