In Group A,
the Betteshanger Alma Lions beat the Plough & Harrow A,
Tilmanstone, 4-2 to remain top. Good wins for Ann Keen (5,210)
and Karen Keen (5,180) put the Plough 2-0 up, but Chris Saville
(14,990) won for Betteshanger, courtesy of a 9,100 break. A
clean sweep of the doubles gave Betteshanger the match, via Wack
Sampson & Saville (2,110), Saville & Potts (2,900) and Potts &
Sampson (2,590). In the final doubles, a break totalling 1500
by Wack Sampson put the Lions in a commanding position 1900 in
front, but replies of 850 from both Brian Carpenter and Ann Keen
put the P&H within 250 of a remarkable come back as the bar
dropped, but it was not to be.
The Market Inn
beat the Brickmakers B 5-1 in Sandwich. Craig Carlson (4,800),
Derek Latham (3,980) and Ted Hogben (1,710) put the Market 3-0
up, but Warren Cowdrey & Dawn Williams (2,080) took the first
doubles for the Brickies. Hogben & Carlson (2,880) and Latham &
Hogben (2,040) wrapped up the points.
The Royal Oak
(Nonington) defeated the Greyhound from Sandwich 5-1. Gary
Clarke (4,120), Stuart Richardson (3,650) and Alan Smith (6,990)
took the singles, with Richard Cousens & Richardson (1,880)
winning the first doubles and the match. Alan Farra & Gareth
Butcher (1,930) gained the Greyhound’s point, with Clarke &
Cousens (2,490) finishing the evening.
In Group B,
the Plough & Harrow B, Tilmanstone held leaders Plough & Harrow,
Bridge 3-3. Keith Symes (2,160) and Ian Dennett (2,940) won for
the Plough Bridge, either side of a Tilmanstone victory for
Gerald Gilbert (2,440). Ken Keen & Harry Pearson (2,290)
levelled in the first doubles, Keith Symes & Dennett (1,360)
restored the Bridge lead, and finally Pearson & Gilbert (2,050)
forced the draw.
The Chantry
won 5-1 away to the Magnet A to close the gap at the top. Stan
Brocklebank (5,450) won for the Chantry, Mike Callanan (3,590)
levelled, and Kevin Kay edged John Higgens 2,660-2,570 to
restore the Chantry lead. The Canterbury side took all the
doubles, the final going to Fullager & Kay (3,070).
