The Chantry are
champions again after defeating challengers Betteshanger Lions 4-2 in
the final match of the season. Neville Potts (5,240) put Betteshanger
ahead, but John Fullager (4,870) and Kevin Kay (4,870) gave the Chantry
the two points they needed for the title. All the doubles went to
Betteshanger, Neville Potts & Chris Saville (5,410) high-scoring.
The Betteshanger Lions
also played away to the Fitzwalter Arms during the week, where they
emerged 4-2 victors. Mark Graves won 2,880-2,310 to give the Fitz the
lead, but Wack Sampson (2,510) and Saville (13,280) won for the
visitors, Saville hitting breaks of 7,280 and 6,000. Sampson & Saville
(4,750) took the first doubles, Graves & Nigel Scott (4,880) won for the
Fitz, before Saville & Potts (6,490) grabbed the match victory.
The Plough & Harrow,
Bridge won 4-2 away to the Greyhound, sending the Sandwich side down.
Gareth Butcher (3,880) gave the Greyhound the lead, before Plough
successes for Keith Symes (2,600) and Ian Dennett (4,320). Keith Symes
& Dennett (5,130) took the first doubles, Alan Farra (6,790) won for the
Greyhound, and finally Baz Symes & Keith Symes (4,250) gained the point
that relegated their opponents.
The Market Inn beat
the Royal Oak from Nonington 4-2 in Sandwich. The visitors took the
lead via Gary Clarke (4,350) and Alan Smith (4,480), but the Craig
Carlson (3,230) won the final singles for the Market. The Sandwich side
took all three doubles, through Latham & John Laundrie (5,550), Carlson
& Latham (6,450) and Ted Hogben & Carlson (3,950), to grab the match.
In Division two, the
Brickmakers A drew 3-3 with the Magnet B. Ann Garlinge (3,150) put the
Brickies ahead, Steve Philpott (1,950) levelled, and Paul Garlinge edged
Justin Philpott 1,720-1,600. Ann & Paul Garlinge (1,990) took the first
doubles, before Magnet successes for Chris Gent & John Evans (1,200) and
Steve & Justin Philpott (3,010).
