The Chantry Club remain top of Division One after a 5-1
victory against the Plough & Harrow from Bridge.
John Fullager (6,870) and Kevin Kay (5,100) took
the first two games for the Chantry, but Ian Dennett
(3,600) pulled a point back for the Plough.
Chris Cook & Kay (4,540) gained the first
doubles, followed by a 5,790-4,900 win for Fullager
& Cook against Baz Symes & Keith Symes.
Stan Brocklebank & Cook (5,850) wrapped up
the match with another success for the Chantry.
Another
strong all-round performance by the visiting
Betteshanger Alma Lions saw them come away from the
Royal
Oak
,
Nonington with a 5-1 victory.
Neville Potts (4,860) started well against the
break for the away side, and this was quickly followed
by wins for Wack Sampson (4,250) and then Chris Saville
(9,200). Saville's game included an impressive
opening break of 7,200 whilst Sampson won his game
against Gary Clarke thanks to a late break of 2,850.
The doubles matches saw the Betteshanger side
continue their good form, with Potts & Saville
(5,860) and then Sampson & Potts (5,330) all scoring
the maximum 2,000 in their games to give them an
unassailable 5-0 lead. The final match saw the home
players of Stuart Richardson & Richard Cousens
(2,720) secure a point for the home side.
In
an all
Sandwich
match, the Market Inn defeated rivals the Greyhound 4-2,
and so move into third place. Derek Latham (7,580)
and Craig Carlson (5,910) both won for the Market Inn,
Carlson hitting a 5,270 break. Alan Farra (6,100)
took the final singles for a point for the
Greyhound. Gareth Butcher & Christine Farra
defeated Ted Hogben & Latham 4,220-3,140 in the
first doubles to level the match. Latham &
Carlson (5,390) re-established the Market Inn lead in
the next leg, with both players opening with maximum
2,000 breaks. The crucial final game was edged
4,330-4,170 by Carlson & Hogben against Christine
Farra & Alan Farra to deliver the match victory to
the Market Inn team.
In
Division Two, the Plough & Harrow A, Tilmanstone,
defeated the Plough & Harrow B 4-2, to gain pub
boasting rights. Gerald Gilbert beat Brian
Carpenter 2,170-1,830 in the first leg for the B, but
victories for Ann Keen (2,530) and Karen Keen (2,140)
gave the A the advantage after the singles.
Carpenter & Karen Keen edged a win over
Phil Court
& Gilbert 1,690-1,430 in the next leg, and the
momentum remained with the A as Ann Keen & Carpenter
(2,890) were successful to ensure the match
victory. Harry Pearson & Court (2,050) took
the final frame of the evening for the B.
