The first league game played at the Betteshanger Club saw the home side secure an impressive 5-1 win over the Plough & Harrow, Bridge team.  After losing the first singles game to Ian Dennett (2,870), the Deal side won all the remaining matches, with Chris Saville (10,300) and Wack Sampson (3,750) winning their singles games to post a 2-1 lead going into the doubles round. Saville posted breaks of 6,110 and 4,060 in his total.  The doubles games saw all the home players scoring well, and all to the maximum 2,000 allowed, to gain the 5-1 overall win.  Neville Potts partnered Sampson (4,670) and then Saville (5,710) to win both his doubles, then Saville & Sampson (4,410) rounded off the evening with the final victory.

The Greyhound from Sandwich won 4-2 away to the Royal Oak , Nonington.  Alan Farra (3,390) and Gareth Butcher (4,870) both won for the visitors, but Alan Smith (9,730) took the final singles for the Royal, a score which included a 4,540 break.  The first two doubles again went to the Greyhound with victories for Butcher & Christine Farra (4,790) and Christine Farra & Alan Farra (3,920).  Butcher hit two maximum 2,000 breaks in the first of those doubles games.  The Royal Oak took the final leg with a success for Richard Cousens & Stuart Richardson (4,180).

 

In Division Two, the Magnet A enjoyed a 5-1 win away to the Plough & Harrow B, Tilmanstone, to establish an early lead.  Phil Court (1,970) won the first leg, but the Deal side took control after that with victories for Mike Callanan (3,730) and John Higgens |(3,030), followed by doubles successes for Higgens & Lin Callanan (3,290), Lin Callanan & Mike Callanan (2,720) and Mike Callanan & Higgens (5,300).

The Brickmakers Arms B beat the Plough & Harrow A, Tilmanstone, 3.5-2.5 to get their campaign off to a winning start.  Dave Howarth beat Karen Keen 2,630-2,110 in the first leg, but Brian Carpenter (1,710) levelled for the Plough A.  The final singles could literally not have been closer, as Bill Edwards and Ann Keen drew 2,430-2,430.  The first two doubles decided the match victory for the Brickies as first Howarth & Dawn Williams (3,930) and then Williams & Edwards (4,840) won their games.  Karen Keen & Ann Keen (4,260) took the final leg to leave the Plough & Harrow A losing by the narrowest possible margin.
