The
final week of the Summer League saw deposed champions
Market Inn regain some pride with a 5-1 win over new
champions Plough & Harrow from Bridge. Gareth
Butcher (4,890), Dave Carliell (3,880) and Derek Latham
(5,960) took the singles, all knocking decent breaks with
the maximum 2,000 break format, Butcher hitting 1,880,
Carliell 1,490 and Latham 1,980. The doubles
continued in similar fashion with victories for Latham
& Ted Hogben (4,840) and Butcher & Latham (5,460),
with the Plough finally gaining their consolation point in
the last leg via Ian Dennett & Baz Symes (4,780). The
Magnet A beat the Brickmakers Arms B 5-1 in an all-Deal
match. Things started well for the Brickies with
victory for Warren Cowdrey (2,120), but John Higgens beat
Dave Howarth 1,820-1,450 followed by another Magnet A win
for Mike Callanan (4,460). Higgens & Lin
Callanan (1,970) gained the first doubles, before Lin
Callanan & Ward Griffiths won a last-ball game
2,780-2,730 against Rick Cowdrey & Dawn Williams.
Mike Callanan & Lin Callanan (3,680) took the final
leg to wrap up the match victory. The
Plate competition has been won by the Plough & Harrow
A, Tilmanstone, after they battled to a 3-3 draw against
the Plough & Harrow B, Tilmanstone, leaving the A just
one point clear of their B team. Harry Pearson
(3,020) took the first singles for the B, before Ron Beer
(3,510) and Ann Keen (2,660) won the next two to put the A
ahead. The
final match saw the Magnet B defeat the Brickmakers Arms A
4-2, to consign the Brickies to the wooden spoon.
Tanya Philpott (2,710), Steve Philpott (3,030) took the
first two singles, and Chris Gent narrowly defeated Ann
Garlinge 1,180-1,150 to complete a clean-sweep of the
singles for the Magnet B. The first doubles saw Paul
Garlinge & Craig Lancaster edge Tanya Philpott &
Gent 2,460-2,330, followed by another very close leg with
Ann Garlinge & Paul Garlinge winning 2,110-2,070
against Steve Philpott & Tanya Philpott, reducing the
deficit for the Brickies to 2-3. The final game saw
Gent & Steve Philpott just beat Lancaster & Ann
Garlinge 1,520-1,250 for the match victory. |
