The second phase of the Summer League is underway, and the Plough & Harrow from Bridge won a competitive match 4-2 at home to the defending champions, the Market Inn from Sandwich .  Derek Latham beat Keith Symes 4,650-4,050, Latham responding to Symes’ 1,890 break with a 1,990 break of his own.  Ian Dennett edged Gareth Butcher 3,870-3,680 in the next leg, Dennett hitting a 1,990 break and Butcher 1,950.  Baz Symes beat Craig Carlson 4,970-3,040 in the final singles, despite Carlson hitting a 1,910 break, although Symes hit a break of 1,980.  With the Plough leading 2-1 after the singles, the match was wrapped up in the first two doubles with victories for Keith Symes & Dennett (4,830) and Baz Symes & Keith Symes (4,140).  Carlson & Latham won the last game 5,840-4,140 for the Market Inn.

In an all-Deal match, the Magnet A defeated the Brickmakers Arms A 4-2.  John Higgens (4,290) and Mike Callanan (3,760) both won for the Magnet A, either side of a Brickies victory for Warren Cowdrey (2,400).  In the first doubles, Shirley Cowdrey & Warren Cowdrey (1,360) levelled the match, but the Magnet A took the final two legs to gain the match victory, via Ward Griffiths & Mike Callanan (2,360) and Higgens & Griffiths (3,660).

 

In the Plate competition, the Plough & Harrow from Tilmanstone staged a match between their A & B teams, and honours were shared in a 3-3 draw.  Ken Keen (3,460) gave the B the lead, but victories for Ron Beer (4,150) and Ann Keen (4,290) put the A in front after the singles.  Ken Keen & Gerald Gilbert defeated Ann Keen & Beer 3,610-2,830 in the first doubles to level matters, but Beer & Brian Carpenter (4,330) took the next leg to restore the A’s lead.  Gilbert & Tony Burns beat Carpenter & Ann Keen 2,800-1,610 in the final frame to force the draw.
