The Plough & Harrow A from Tilmanstone defeated the Magnet B 5-1 to move top and maintain a strong challenge in Group A.  Ann Keen (4,530) took the first singles, before Justin Philpott (2,220) levelled for the Magnet B.  Ron Beer (3,730) re-established the Plough lead, after hitting a 1,960 break.  All the doubles were competitive, with the Plough doing enough in each to win all.  Keen & Beer defeated Steve Philpott & Tanya Philpott 4,210-3,240, Brian Carpenter & Keen beat Chris Gent & Steve Philpott 2,130-1,440 and finally Beer & Carpenter were victorious, 4,080-3,130 against Justin Philpott & Steve Philpott, with Beer hitting a 2000 break.

The Magnet A from Deal won 5-1 at home to defending champions the Market Inn, to leave the Market’s hold on the Summer League as tenuous at best.  Mike Callanan (6,300), Lin Callanan (1,780) and John Higgens (4,460) took all the singles for the home side, before Gareth Butcher & Dave Carliell (2,750) won the first doubles for the Sandwich side.  The Magnet A regained the ascendancy as they won the final two legs with victories for Ward Griffiths & Mike Callanan (4,140) and Higgens & Griffiths (5,350).

 

The runaway winners of Group B, the Plough & Harrow from Bridge, enjoyed an emphatic 6-0 win at home to the Brickmakers Arms A from Deal.  Baz Symes (4,020), Ian Dennett (4,310) and Keith Symes (2,370) took all the singles, and the doubles continued in similar fashion.  Keith Symes & Dennett (4,940), Baz Symes & Keith Symes (3,290) and Dennett & Baz Symes (5,200) were all winners.

The Brickmakers Arms B have almost booked their top-two spot after a 4-2 win at home to the Plough & Harrow B, Tilmanstone.  All the singles went to the Brickies with victories for Warren Cowdrey (3,110), Rick Cowdrey (3,110) and Shirley Cowdrey (1,720).  The Plough fought back in the doubles as Phil Court & Gerald Gilbert defeated Dave Howarth & Rick Cowdrey 2,130-1,520, and then Gilbert & Harry Pearson (2,280) also won.  A close and crucial final leg was eventually won 2,100-1,780 by Warren Cowdrey & Dawn Williams against Pearson & Court to claim the match and the bonus points.
