In the Summer League Group A, the defending champions the Market Inn have moved to the top after a convincing 6-0 win at home to the Magnet B from Deal.  Gareth Butcher narrowly defeated Steve Philpott 1,970-1,700, followed by further victories for the Sandwich side care of Derek Latham (3,030) and Craig Carlson (4,470).  Butcher & Dave Carliell edged Tanya Philpott & Lee Philpott 1,490-1,060 in the first doubles to seal the match, followed by a win for Carlson & Butcher (3,090).  The final game went to Carliell & Latham, 3,970-3,510 against Steve Philpott & Lee Philpott, with Steve Philpott’s late 1,810 break not quite enough for a consolation point.

The Magnet A and the Plough & Harrow A, Tilmanstone drew 3-3 in Deal.  Brian Carpenter beat Ward Griffiths 1,700-1,120 to put the Plough ahead, but Mike Callanan (2,880) levelled matters.  Ann Keen (5,550) restored the Plough lead in the final singles game.  John Higgens & Lin Callanan (3,380) regained parity in the first doubles, but once again the Tilmanstone team took the lead as Keen & Carpenter (2,770) were successful.  In the crucial final leg, Mike Callanan & Lin Callanan (4,900) took control to force the draw.  The Magnet A are now one point behind the Plough & Harrow and three points behind the leaders, and with only two to progress and only two matches of this stage to play, one of the top three has to miss out with all to play for.

In Group B, the Brickmakers Arms A from Deal won 4-2 away to the Plough & Harrow B, Tilmanstone.  Harry Pearson (2,600) and Ken Keen (1,590) gave the home side an early lead, but Ann Garlinge (1,530) took the final singles for the visitors.  Ann Garlinge & Alan Holmwood enjoyed a last-gasp 1,160-1,020 victory against Ian Jamieson & Pearson to level the scores, followed by further successes for Holmwood & Paul Garlinge (3,010) and Paul Garlinge & Ann Garlinge (2,760) to gain the match victory and the bonus points.
