Plough & Harrow, Bridge vs Alma Lions Spring Cup, FINAL played at Magnet Inn, Deal Result : 0-4 Keith Symes 1,720 4,630 Neville Potts Ian Dennett 3,360 9,190 Chris Saville Baz Symes 3,400 7,180 Kevin Pringle Baz & Ian 1,080 1,950 Neville & Kevin The final of this years' Spring Cup competition was played at the Magnet Inn in Deal and was won convincingly by the Alma Lions, Deal as they overpowered the Plough & Harrow from Bridge in an awesome display to retain the trophy. The P&H won the toss and chose to be the home team, but lost the first advantage as Neville Potts (4,630) played the table well on his way to beating Keith Symes, Chris Saville (9,190) then produced a masterful display to defeat Ian Dennett, including an opening break of 8,880 to put the Deal side 2-0 up. The final singles was also won by the Alma team as Kevin Pringle (7,180) defeated Baz Symes, thanks to two solid breaks during the game. This then left the P&H team needing to win all three doubles matches, and claw back an aggregate points lead of over 12,000 - something nearly impossible in the triangles format rules. This proved the case as the first doubles match was won by Potts & Pringle (1,950) for the Alma side to secure a 4-0 overall victory and retain the Cup they won last year. The league would like to thank the Magnet Inn for allowing them to play the Final at their pub, and the many other landlords who welcomed the quarter & semi-final matches at their venues this year. |
