Herewith the Dover , Deal & District Bar Billiards League report for this week.  I know this is probably too late for the forthcoming editions, but there are no more fixtures until January 10th, so you may want to use it sometime before then.  All the best for Christmas and the New year.

In the final fixtures before the Christmas break, the defending champions Chantry Club have moved top after a 4-2 win away to the Market Inn,
Sandwich .  Derek Latham beat Chris Cook 4,930-3,450 to put the home side ahead, but John Fullager (7,040) levelled for the Canterbury team.  Ted Hogben (3,390) then restored the Market Inn lead.  Fullager & Cook (7,800) took the first doubles, Cook & Kevin Kay defeated Hogben & Latham 6,170-4,300 to gain the lead for the visitors, and Kay & Fullager (5,980) wrapped up the match victory in the last leg.

The Plough & Harrow from Bridge won 4-2 at home to the Greyhound to move into third spot.  Gareth Butcher (3,250) put the Sandwich side in front, but Ian Dennett (10,090) levelled after hitting breaks of 5,500 and 4,100, and Baz Symes (8,160) also won for the Plough with a 7,360 break, despite his opponent, Alan Farra, knocking a break of 3,800.  Butcher & Dave Carliell (6,380) again levelled the match, but a close 4,170-3,800 win for Paddy Maher & Mark Maher against Farra & Butcher was followed by victory for Mark Maher & Keith Symes (4,360) for the overall success for the Plough. 

 

In Division Two, the Fitzwalter Arms have won the title with the New Year fixtures still remaining, after a 6-0 victory at home to the Brickmakers Arms A.  Steve Lake beat Paul Garlinge 2,530-1,760, followed by wins for Roger Oldfield (3,890) and Mark Graves (2,750).  The doubles all fell convincingly to the Fitz, with successes for Graves & Nigel Scott (3,460), Scott & Lake (2,780) and Oldfield & Scott (4,520).

The Plough & Harrow A from Tilmanstone earned New Year bragging rights over the Plough & Harrow B, Tilmanstone after a 4-2 win, a result which also moves the A above the B into second place in the table.  Ann Keen (2,710) put the A ahead, before Doug Vickers (3,350) levelled matters.  Karen Keen beat Paul Collins 2,740-2,190 to restore the A lead going into the doubles.  Ann Keen & Carpenter (4,710) took the next leg, and the match victory was assured as Carpenter & Karen Keen beat Phil Court & Harry Pearson 3,580-2,610.  Collins & Court (3,800) took the final frame for the B side. 

 

In Division Two, the Fitzwalter Arms are in touching distance of the title after a 4-2 away win at second-placed Plough & Harrow B, Tilmanstone.  Doug Vickers (5,690) gave the Plough the lead, but Roger Oldfield edged Paul Collins 1,970-1,750 and Mark Graves (2,850) was also successful to give the Fitz the lead.  Graves & Steve Lake (3,220) and Lake & Oldfield (4,480) took the first two doubles to ensure the match victory, but Vickers & Harry Pearson (5,030) won the last leg for the Plough & Harrow B.

The Magnet B won their first match of the season in style, 6-0 away to the Brickmakers Arms A, although the match was closer than the score line suggests.  Steve Philpott (1,620) won, Tanya Philpott narrowly defeated Craig Lancaster 1,360-1,170 and Chris Gent (3,520) made it 3-0.  Gent & Philpott (2,810) took the first doubles, Steve Philpott & Tanya Philpott just beat Ann Garlinge & Lancaster 1,850-1,720, and finally Tanya Philpott & Gent defeated Lancaster & Paul Garlinge 820-570 to complete the white-wash.
