The Alma have moved top of Group A after a 4-2 win at home to the Brickmakers Arms A.  John Mitchell (3680) won for the Alma despite losing an 1800 break, followed by further Alma successes for Rick Cowdrey (1310) and Dave Howarth (3530).  The bonus points were wrapped up in the first doubles with victory for Shirley Cowdrey & Howarth, but the Brickies picked up the final two legs.  Ann Garlinge played well, recording breaks of 1310 and 1570 as she partnered Craig Lancaster and Paul Garlinge to victories.

With the Magnet A having a bye, the Plough & Harrow from Tilmanstone took advantage to move second with a 4-2 win at home to the Butchers Arms.  Karen Keen (2980) and Ann Keen (2380) put the Plough 2-0 up, before Phil Court (2500) pulled a point back for the Butchers Arms.  Brian Carpenter & Ann Keen won the first doubles, before a narrow 2490-2410 win for Ruth Collins & Harry Pearson gave the Butchers Arms hope of a draw.  A tense final frame, however, was won by Ann & Karen Keen 2360-1780.

In Group B, the Plough & Harrow from Bridge returned to winning ways with a 5-1 victory at home to the Magnet B.  Keith Symes (7650) won the first leg, Brian Underwood defeated Chris Gent 3580-2470, and Ian Dennett (4960) took the final singles for 3-0.  Dennett & Underwood scored 7140 to win the first doubles and the match, but Tanya Philpott & Steve Philpott beat Underwood & Symes 5060-4410 for the Magnet’s point.  Symes & Dennett took the final frame with a 6700 score.

The Greyhound edged into second place after a 3-3 draw at the Brickmakers B.  Craig Carlson beat Nick Corck 5480-4630 to put the Greyhound ahead, needing two maximum 2000 breaks to do so.  Simon Jones hit back for the Brickies, winning a close frame 2880-2760 against Dave McNeily, but then Daniel Jackson (3140) again gave the Greyhound the lead.  After McNeily & Carlson scored 5130 to take the first doubles the match seemed to be heading the Sandwich side’s way, but the Brickies fought back.  Jones & Paul Dargan took the penultimate frame, before Corck & Simon Hart won 5150-3520 to earn a deserved draw for their team.
