The Summer League is under way, rules are as per standard bar billiards except players are restricted to maximum 2000 breaks in all legs, including the singles.  There are two groups, the top two of each progressing to the semi-finals, the bottom two going into the Plate.

Group A saw a shock, with runaway winners of Division 2 in the Winter League, The Alma Gills losing at home to the Butchers Arms 4-2.  Bill Edwards (4720) put the Alma ahead, but Doug Vickers (5630) played a tremendous leg, followed by some excellent bar billiards from Phil Court (2740) to put the Butchers Arms 2-1 up.  The three doubles were all punctuated by black-pegs.  Vickers & Court won the first doubles, their opponents black-pegging, Harry Pearson returned to his old haunt with his new team and partnered Court to victory, John Mitchell & Rick Cowdrey losing their score in the process.  The Alma picked up the last frame courtesy of an 8420 score for Dave Howarth & Mitchell, the Butchers Arms black-peg proving irrelevant.

Honours were even at Tilmanstone where the Plough & Harrow drew with the Magnet A 3-3.  Ann Keen beat John Higgens 2630-2320, followed by victory for Brian Carpenter to give early advantage to the home side.  Mike Callanan (5510) took the final singles for the Magnet, but after Ann & Karen Keen scored 4050 to restore a 2 frame lead for the Plough.  Higgens & Lin Callanan, with a 3940 total, resumed the Magnet fight back, which was completed by Ward Griffiths & Mike Callanan (4900).

In Group B, defending champions the Plough & Harrow from Bridge started well with a 5-1 win at home to the Greyhound.  Keith Symes (5990), Baz Symes (5750) and Ian Dennett (5400) swept the singles before them, and Baz & Keith Symes (6780) then put the match beyond doubt.  Craig Carlson & Dave McNeily (6260) seized the Greyhound’s point in the penultimate leg.  Keith Symes, who played well hitting a succession of maximum 2000 breaks during the evening, partnered Dennett to win the last frame.

The Market Inn defeated the Brickmakers B 4-2 for a good start to their campaign.  Dave Carliell (4570) recorded breaks of 1980 and 1800 en route to his win, and Gareth Butcher beat Simon Jones 3280-2370 to put the Market Inn 2-0 up.  Nick Corck enjoyed an excellent 4200-2220 victory against Alan Farra to put the Brickies back in it, and he then partnered Jones defeat Christine Farra & Alan Farra 3350-2850.  Gareth Butcher knocked breaks of 2000 and 1950 as he and Christine Farra scored 5890, and Carliell & Alan Farra finished the job as they took the final frame for match victory
