The Royal Oak finished their group matches with a 4-2 win at home to the Brickmakers B, and are now top of Group A – the Chantry play their last game next week and can still overtake the Oak.  Stuart Richardson just beat Simon Hart 1310-1200, followed up by a close win for Richard Cousens, his winning score 680.  The Brickies fought back as Simon Jones defeated Alan Smith, Jones also failing to make 1000.  The Brickies took the first doubles to level matters, Nick Corck & Jones hitting 1980 for the highest score of the night.  Smith & Cousens beat Hart & Corck 1400-1120 to regain the Nonnington team’s lead, and Richardson & Smith took the final frame convincingly for the bonus points.

The Magnet A retain hope of a place in the last 8 after a 4-2 win at the Brickmakers A.  Ann Garlinge (1560) gave the Brickies the lead, but from there the Magnet won a series of close legs.  John Higgens edged Craig Lancaster 2540-2270, Mike Callanan (2600) took his frame, and then partnered Lin Callanan to a win in the first doubles.  The bonus points were secured after Higgens & Lin Callanan just defeated Lancaster & Ann Garlinge 1520-1440, and finally the second point for the Brickies came courtesy of Paul Garlinge & Lancaster.

Group B saw the Alma Lions finally succumb their 100% record as they drew at home to the
Market Inn B.   Chris Saville (12350) put the Alma ahead, Neville Potts (8440) made it 2-0, but Derek Latham took the final singles played courtesy of a 6730 break.  Terry Laslett & Potts won a close first doubles 2310-1940 against Latham & Craig Carlson, Laslett finishing decisively as the bar dropped.  From there the Market Inn fought back with wins for Carlson & Ted Hogben, and then Hogben & Latham as they scored 2570 to force the draw.

In Group B, the Market Inn A beat the Alma B, a result which confirms the Market finish second in their section.  Gareth Butcher put the home side ahead as he potted the final ball down the 200 to beat Bill Edwards 1910-1850.  Dave Carliell (2120) also won, followed by victory for Alan Farra, as he scored 5390, including a 4080 break.  The match victory was secure after the first doubles as Farra & Carliell were successful, but the Alma B deservedly picked up the last two legs as Rick Cowdrey & John Mitchell (1910) and then Edwards & Harry Pearson were victorious.

Group C saw the Plough & Harrow from Tilmanstone earn a 3-3 draw at home to the Plough & Harrow from Bridge.  A close tie was started in just that manner as Keith Symes edged Ron Beer 2680-2660, followed by a win for Ian Dennett (3500).  Ann Keen (3650) sparked a revival for the Tilmanstone Plough, as they also took the first two doubles, Karen Keen playing in both.  The visiting Bridge Plough needed the final leg for the draw, and Baz Symes & Keith Symes just delivered with an 1830-1540 victory over Ron Beer & Ann Keen.

The Market Inn A won the all-Sandwich as they defeated the Greyhound 5-1.  Dave McNeily (2620) collected the Greyhound’s point, in-between wins for Alan Farra (5460) and Gareth Butcher (4600).  Farra & Dave Carliell took the first doubles, and the bonus points were claimed as Butcher & Christine Farra scored 2580 to best their opponents, with the final leg following suit.
