After Tuesday, the Chantry were on the verge
of deservedly retaining the championship,
with the Lion needing to win 6-0 in a
rearranged fixture.
The Chantry, however, were held to a
3-3 draw in Bridge against the Plough &
Harrow.
Ian Dennett beat Kevin Kay 6240-5350,
before the Chantry fought back as Mick
Nichol defeated Keith Symes 9490-5680, and
John Fullager totalled 9240 in his victory.
The points continued to flow in the
doubles as Baz Symes & Keith Symes
knocked 8070, Nichol & Kay edged Dennett
& Baz Symes 5490-4200, and finally Keith
Symes and Dennett hit 8590 to force the
draw.
The
title chasing Lion team enjoyed a 4-2 win at
the
Market
Inn
A
to keep in touch at the top. After the
Lion won all the singles via Chris Saville
(5980), Tim Hayes (3110) and Neville Potts
(5860) they were looking for a big win.
However, the first two doubles were won by
the
Market
Inn
A
,
both very close games. First, Gareth
Butcher potted the last ball down the 100
hole as he and Christine Farra beat Potts
& Terry Laslett, then Alan Farra sank
the last ball down the 200 to beat Laslett
& Wack Sampson. Hayes &
Saville comfortably won the final leg for
the match victory.
The
Royal
Oak
beat basement side the
Market
Inn
B
4-2 in Nonnington.
Alan Smith (4560) and Stuart
Richardson (3940) put the home side 2-0 up,
but a good win for Ted Hogben (4140) gave
the
Sandwich
team hope.
Richard Cousens partnered first
Richardson
and then Gary Clarke to wins in the first
two doubles to ensure the bonus points for
the Oak, but the
final leg was taken by Craig Carlson &
John Skinner for the visitors.
The
Fitzwalter Arms A finished a good season
with a 4-2 win against the Magnet A.
Steve
Lake
(1830) and Mark Graves (5820) put the Fitz
2-0 up, before Mike Callanan hit 8920 for
the Magnet.
Graves & Lake beat Callanan &
Ward
Griffiths
4370-4240 in the first doubles and won the
next too for match victory.
Mike & Lin Callanan scored 6440
in the final frame for their second point.
In Division 2, the Brickmakers B beat the
Greyhound 5-1, and have a rearranged fixture
against the Magnet B which is effectively a
play-off for the runners-up spot.
Simon Hart edged Daniel Jackson
2270-1920, before wins for Simon Jones
(4510) and Nick Corck (2770) put the
Brickies 3-0 up.
The first two doubles also went to
the home side, before the Greyhound
consolation point was won by Daniel Jackson
& Roger Beadle.
The
Magnet B defeated the Fitzwalter Arms B 6-0
to move into third.
Rob Robertson (3380), Steve Philpott
(2240) and Chris Gent (1720) swept up the
singles, and Steve & Tanya Philpott beat
Lisa Goddard & Nigel Scott 2010-1550 in
the first doubles to put victory beyond
doubt.
The
Butchers Arms completed a good season with a
3-3 draw at home to the Brickmakers A.
Paul Collins put the Butchers Arms ahead,
Paul Garlinge (3150) levelled matters, and
Daryl Pemble (2290) put the Ashley side back
in front. Ann & Paul Garlinge
narrowly won the first doubles, Paul
Garlinge & Craig Lancaster gave the
Brickies the lead, and finally Doug Vickers
& Pemble salvaged the draw for the
Butchers Arms.
