Report 6th June 2003
Herewith the Dover, Deal & District bar billiards league
report for this week:-
Result:
Spring Cup Final: Chantry 3 Lion 3, Chantry win on
points aggregate.
The final of the Spring Cup was played at the Plough &
Harrow Tilmanstone, and saw the Chantry Club from Canterbury
beat the Lion from Ash on points aggregate after a 3-3 draw.
The first leg was won by Wack Sampson for the Lion, after
Kevin Kay both black-pegged and lost a 2 thousand break,
with Sampson's opening 2500 break proving decisive.
The Chantry levelled matters in the second singles, with
Mick Nichol beating Tim Hayes 7620-4730. Hayes had
been leading by over 3 thousand, but Nichol with a break
slightly less than 7 thousand took the frame. The
final singles was a last-ball game, as Neville Potts just
edged the game 3000-2930 against John Fullager, to leave the
Lion 2-1 up.
A tight first doubles was won by Fullager & Roger
Standen, 4040-3130 against Paul Smart & Wack Sampson,
but the Lion regained their lead winning another nip and
tuck leg with Hayes & Smart defeating Standen &
Nichol 3920-3160. Going into the final leg, the Lion
led 3-2 but the Chantry led on points aggregate, so it was
winner takes all. Kay & Potts opened with maximum
2 thousand breaks for their teams, Standen left the table
with only a few points on his break, but Smart left his
first break short to give the impetus to the Chantry.
The Chantry built a lead, but the Lion seemed to recover as
they fought back, but Kevin Kay managed a 1000 break late on
for a final 4410 score to clinch the Spring Cup trophy.
At the moment, the Plate final is scheduled to take place at
the Market Inn, Sandwich on Tuesday June 10th, being
contested by the Magnet A and the Butchers Arms.
