Report 5th August 2003

Two wins from two games now for the Market Inn as they travelled to Deal and won 4-2 against the Magnet B.  Rob Robertson (2390) gave the Magnet the lead, before Dave Carliell just defeated Tanya Philpott 2260-2080.  An excellent win 2810-2350 for Steve Philpott against Craig Carlson re-established the Magnet lead, as Philpott was trailing throughout most of the frame but determinedly overcame the deficit.  The
Sandwich side needed to win all three doubles to take the match and did just that as Carlson & Carliell (2270) and then Carlson & Gareth Butcher (3650) won.  The final doubles saw Butcher & Carliell beat Tanya & Steve Philpott 3060-1930 for the match victory, and for Dave Carliell it completed an
excellent evening as he won all three of his games, including significant breaks in the first two.

The Plough & Harrow from Bridge drew a superb match 3-3 at home to the Lion from Ash.  Neville Potts beat Ian Dennett 5400-4280 in the first singles, and Wack Sampson then defeated Brian Underwood 5730-2570 for 2-0 to the visiting Lion.  In the final singles, Tim Hayes faced a score in the 5000s for the second week running as Keith Symes beat him 5310-2680, and Symes & Underwood (5590) took the first doubles also.  Hayes & Potts scored 6450 to win their doubles, but were outscored in the final frame as Dennett & Symes notched 8320 points to force the draw.

The Brickmakers B remain unbeaten in Group B as they defeated the Plough & Harrow from Tilmanstone 4-2.  Simon Jones (2350) took the first leg, then Nick Corck scraped a win 1290-810 against Ann Keen for 2-0 to the Brickies.  Karen Keen (1840) pulled a point back for the visitors in the final singles.  A convincing win for Simon Jones & Paul Dargan opened a 3-1 gap, but Ann Keen & Brian Carpenter fought back in the next frame to keep the match alive.  Simon Jones & Simon Hart remained steady in the final leg to secure match victory.

In the Plate, the Fitzwalter Arms have stormed to the top as they beat the Brickmakers A 4-2.  Lee Byford enjoyed a good 2310-1650 win against Paul Garlinge, but the next two singles went the way of the Brickies as Ann Garlinge (1860) and Craig Lancaster (2340) won.  Nigel Scott & Steve Lake (2390) took the first doubles, and then Carl Byford and Lake gained the lead for the Fitz with another successful doubles frame.  The final frame of the evening was taken 1840-960 by Steve Lake & Lee Byford against Paul Garlinge & Craig Lancaster to wrap up the match.
