The Lion from Ash won 5-1 away at the Alma B in Group A.  Harry Pearson beat Tim Hayes for the
Alma 's only point, after Hayes had lost a 9000 break. Other singles wins came courtesy of Wack Sampson (4620) and Neville Potts (7480), and all the doubles followed suit.  The Lion will play either the Market Inn B or the Fitzwalter Arms in the
quarterfinals.
The
Royal Oak and the Market Inn A enjoyed a 3-3 draw in Nonnington. Gareth Butcher took the first leg for the visiting Market Inn team, Alan Smith levelled for the Oak after Dave Carliell had black-pegged to lose a winning score, and Alan Farra beat Gary Clarke 4560-2840 for the Sandwich side.  Richard Cousens & Alan Smith took the first doubles, before the Market Inn again re-established their lead through Christine Farra & Alan Farra.  The final leg was won by Smith & Clarke for the Oak with 4660 points, after Carliell had knocked a 1995 break, and then Farra had fallen foul of the maximum 2000 break rule.
A superb 4-2 win for the Plough & Harrow from Tilmanstone against the Magnet A means the Magnet have finished outside the top four, their reward a bye into the semi-finals of the Plate.  Singles wins for Ann Keen and Brain Carpenter gave an early lead to the Plough before Mike
Callanan took a frame for the Magnet.  Ron Beer partnered first Carpenter and the Keen to two doubles wins before a final frame victory for Mike & Lin Callanan.

The Chantry defeated the Brickmakers A 5-1, and are thereby assured of second place in their group.  Singles wins for John Fullager (3910) and Kevin Kay (4750) opened a quick lead for the Canterbury side, but Paul Garlinge pegged a leg back for the Brickies.  The doubles all went the way of the Chantry, though, including a terrific last-leg win, 3770-3560 for Mick Nichol & Kevin Kay against Ann Garlinge & Alan Holmwood.

In Group B, the
Market Inn B and the Plough & Harrow from Bridge enjoyed a 3-3 draw on an unforgiving table.  Daniel Jackson took the first singles for the Market, but this was reversed with victories for Paddy Meher and Ian Dennett (5650).  The first doubles also went to the Bridge team as Keith Symes & Baz Symes narrowly defeated Jackson & Craig Carlson 2240-2030.  With defeat looming, the Market Inn side rallied, as Carlson & Derek Latham just bested Meher & Keith Symes 1510-1210, and then Latham & Jackson scored 4150 for a more convincing victory.
The Fitzwalter Arms beat the Magnet B 4-2, as they swept up all 3 singles legs with wins for Mark Graves, Nigel Scott and Roger Oldfield.  Rob Robertson & Tanya Philpott took the first doubles, before two close final frames -
Steve Lake & Roger Oldfield edged Chris Gent & Tanya Philpott 2250-2080, and then Steve Philpott & Rob Robertson defeated Scott & Lake 1730-1590.
Finally, the Brickmakers B beat the Butchers Arms 5-1.  Baz Taylor and Simon Hart gave the Brickies a 2-0 lead, but Baz Winter pulled a point back for the visiting Butchers Arms team.  The Butchers Arms were unlucky not to pick up at least another point as all three doubles were taken by the Brickies, but two extremely close.  Simon Jones & Baz Taylor beat Doug Vickers & Janet Kershaw 1480-1230, and Paul Dargan & Jones beat Paul Collins & Vickers 2760-2460.
