The
Plough & Harrow from Bridge have taken a commanding position in Group A
after winning 4-2 at previous leaders the Market Inn. Ian Dennett (3050),
Keith Symes (5200) and Baz Symes (3040) swept maximum points from the singles to
give the Plough a 3-0 lead. The Market Inn fought back as Alan Farra &
Gareth Butcher (5640) took the first doubles, and then Craig Carlson &
Butcher won an edgy frame 4970-3750 against Ian Dennett & Baz Symes.
The winners of the final frame would finish the evening top of the group, and
Keith Symes & Ian Dennett defeated Dave Carliell & Alan Farra 3650-2790
to do just that.
The Lion are a point behind in third place after a 5-1 win at home to the Magnet
B. Neville Potts (2780) took his singles, but performance of the week was
from Tanya Philpott as she beat Tim Hayes 2820-1970 for the Magnet's point.
Wack Sampson just beat Steve Philpott
3730-3510 in the closest frame of the evening. The doubles were all
canters for the Lion as Sampson & Potts (6330), Potts & Matt Andrews
(4870) and Hayes & Sampson all won.
The Alma are in a strong position now in Group C after winning 4-2 away to the
Plough & Harrow from Tilmanstone, many of the frames as close as the final
scoreline. Bill Edwards potted the final ball to beat Karen Keen 1650-1520
to give the
Carpenter played well to beat John Mitchell 3420-2130 to level the tie.
Dave Howarth (3260) restored the
Carpenter defeated Callanan & Howarth 2740-2670. The decisive final
frame was the closest of all as Mitchell & Callanan beat Carpenter & Ann
Keen by the margin of just 30 points, 2380-2350, as Callanan potted the final
ball down the 100 hole.
The
Brickmakers B maintained their
challenge for top-spot after a 3-3 draw at the Magnet A. The Magnet are
still without a win in this group. Mike Callanan (5370) took the first leg
for the Magnet, but the Brickies fought back with singles wins for Simon Jones
(3740-2260 against John Higgens) and Nick Corck (2480). The first doubles
saw the Magnet A draw level as Mike & Lin Callanan scored 2870 for their
victory. Simon Jones & Paul Dargan (3140) regained the lead for the
Brickies, but in the final leg John Higgens & Lin Callanan beat Dargan &
Corck 3510-1380 to force the draw.
In the Plate, the Fitzwalter Arms winning run faltered as they lost away to the
Greyhound 4-2. The Greyhound took an extremely competitive first singles
as Daniel Jackson bested Nigel Scott 6360-3240. Lee Byford (1850) levelled
the tie, before Roger Beadle beat Carl Byford by the margin of just 20 points to
restore the Greyhound lead.
