At the halfway point of the group stages, the Lion's remarkable winning run finally came to end in
Canterbury , as they lost 4-2 to the Chantry.
Mick Nichol scored 14,000 to put the Chantry ahead, but Neville Potts (4060) levelled the tie.  Kevin Kay (5120) inflicted Paul Smart's first
defeat of the competition to restore the Chantry lead.  Smart then partnered Wack Sampson to narrowly beat Kay & Roger Standen 4310-3860 to
level matters once more, but another close game finished 1490-1210 to Standen & Nichol against Hayes & Sampson.  Victory was clinched for the
Chantry in the final leg as Nichol & Kay (5890) took the honours.
The Magnet A won an important match 4-2 against the
Market Inn A to move within a point of them.  Ward Griffiths took the first leg, before Mike
Callanan made it 2-0 to the Magnet with a 4390-2320 victory over Alan Farra.  Gareth Butcher edged the final singles to give hope to the
Market Inn.  Butcher then partnered Christine Farra as they just beat Lin Callanan & Griffiths 1280-1200 to pull the match level.  The final
doubles leg fell the Magnet way, though, for match victory as Lin Callanan teamed up with first John Higgins and then Mike Callanan.
The Plough & Harrow from Tilmanstone travelled to the Deal and won 4-2 against the Alma B.  Bill Edwards (4370) took the first leg for the
Alma , but the Plough finished the singles in the ascendancy as both Karen Keen and Brian Carpenter won.  In the doubles, Harry Pearson &
Dave Howarth edged the first leg against Carpenter & Karen Keen 1200-890, but from there Ann Keen partnered first Carpenter and then
Karen Keen to both wins.

The Royal Oak beat the Brickmakers A 5-1, to move into third spot.  Alan Smith took the first leg for the Oak, followed by a narrow win for Craig Lancaster to pull the match all square.  From there the Royal Oak took over as Stuart Richardson took the final singles, and then Gary Clarke played and won all three doubles, partnering Richardson, Richard Cousens and Smith.

In Group B, the Plough & Harrow from Bridge remain top after a 4-2 against the Brickmakers B in Deal.  Simon Jones (3070) put the home side
in front, but the Plough immediately replied through wins for Keith Symes (5450) and Ian Dennett (2260).  The first doubles again went to Jones, partnering Simon Hart, but Baz Symes played in and won both the final legs for match victory.
There was yet another 4-2 result at the Fitzwalter Arms, where the Alma A came away in triumph.  Roger Oldfield took the first leg, but the match swung in the
Alma direction as John Mitchell and Chris Saville produced victories.  In the first doubles, Saville potted the final ball to give he and Ann Green a 1550-1360 win against Nigel Scott and Steve Lake .  The fifth leg also went to the Alma A, 2430-700 to Les Green & Ted Batchelor, but only after Roger Oldfield had lost a 1900 break.  The
final leg went to the Fitz as Mark Graves & Steve Lake won, but this time after Les Green had black-pegged after an earlier maximum 2000 opener.
The
Market Inn B kept their qualification hopes on track with a 4-2 home win against the Magnet B, but it was far from straightforward.  Craig Carlson (2960) took the first leg, before Matt Brown potted the lastball down the 100 to beat Steve Philpott 1280-1040.  The third leg was even closer, as Derek Latham and Chris Gent were dead level with two balls remaining - Latham was next on and sunk both for a 1010-940 victory and 3-0 to the Market Inn.  The doubles continued in similar fashion as the first leg went to the final ball again, and Steve & Tanya Philpott beat Daniel Jackson & Matt Brown 2300-2200.  The next doubles was won by Latham & Jackson as they ensured the Sandwich side could not be beaten, but the final leg went to the Magnet as Rob Robertson & Tanya Philpott (3040) took the honours - Carlson & Jackson had contrived to score just 10 points for the Market Inn.
