The Chantry remain on course for the title after
their latest win, 4-2 at the Royal Oak, Nonnington.
Kevin Kay (4080), Mick Nichol (4530) and John
Fullager (2750) secured maximum points from the
singles for the Chantry, before a doubles fight-back
saw Royal Oak win for Alan Smith & Richard
Cousens (4880), and then Cousens & Stuart
Richardson (5370).
With the match in the balance, a tense final leg
went to the wire as Nichol & Fullager edged
Smith & Gary Clarke 3680-3420.
The Lion got back to winning ways with a good team
display in beating the Magnet A 5-1. Wack
Sampson (6360) took the first leg, and the Lion's
impressive start continued as Tim Hayes knocked an
11190 break during his win. Neville Potts
(7010) took the final singles, courtesy of an
unfinished 5200 break after trailing Mike Callanan
throughout most of the frame. After the first
doubles also tumbled to the Lion, the Magnet's point
finally came in the fifth leg as John Higgens &
Mike Callanan scored 6240 for their point.
Potts & Hayes hit 7480 in the final leg to wrap
up the evening.

Sandwich
boasting rights. Andy Jones (2760) put the A
1-0 up, after Derek Latham pegged a potentially
winning 2700 break. Gareth Butcher (2670) made
it 2-0, and Alan Farra edged Craig Carlson 3600-2920
for 3-0. After the first doubles also went to
the A, the B team took the last two frames courtesy
of Carlson & Latham (4230), and then Ted Hogben
& John Skinner.
The
Fitzwalter Arms had an unexpected 5-1 win against
the Plough & Harrow from Bridge.
Steve
Lake
just beat Ian Dennett 3150-2970, before wins for
Mark Graves (2420) and Roger Oldfield (3500) made it
3-0. The first doubles also went to the Fitz,
before Baz Symes & Keith Symes won a last-ball
game 3520-3420 against Graves & Lake, and then
Lake & Oldfield defeated Keith Symes &
Dennett 3420-2870, also to the last ball.
The
Alma
travelled the short distance to the
Alma
and won 4-2 to extend their lead in Division 2.
Steve Philpott (4510) put the Magnet ahead,
but Dave Howarth levelled matters after beating Rob
Robertson in a last-ball game.
Bill Edwards (2750) took the final singles
for the
Alma
,
and after the first doubles also went to them, the
fifth frame was decisive as Rick Cowdrey &
Edwards beat Robertson & Chris
Gent
4340-3220.
The
Plough & Harrow from Tilmanstone won a seesaw
match against the Butchers Arms, 4-2 in Ashley.
Ron Beer put the Plough ahead, Doug Vickers (3310)
levelled matters, and then Ann Keen (3880)
re-established the Plough lead. Ruth Collins
&
Phil
Court
(3190) made it 2-2, before the last two frames fell
finally to the Plough for match victory.
The
battle of the Brickies ended even as the
Brickmakers’ two teams enjoyed a 3-3 draw. Paul
Garlinge (2490) and Alan Holmwood (1950) gave the A
an early lead, but Simon Jones (3070) took the final
singles, and then partnered Nick Corck to a win to
level the match.
Paul & Ann Garlinge won the penultimate
frame against Paul Dargan and Simon Hart by just 30
points, and Jones & Dargan defeated Ann Garlinge
& Holmwood 1950-1630 to force the draw.
