The Chantry Club produced a power display to beat
their nearest rivals, the Lion from Ash, 5-1 in
Canterbury. Mick Nichol scored 13510, including
an opening 8600 break to put the Chantry 1-0 up,
before Neville Potts fought back with 8860 in typical
style. John Fullager knocked two 6000 breaks en
route to his 12570 score to put the Chantry 2-1 up.
The Chantry scored highly in the three doubles, all
their players producing maximum 2000 breaks, the only
close leg being the last as Mick Nichol & Kevin
Kay defeated Paul Smart & Nev Potts 5630-4800.
The Fitzwalter Arms A enjoyed a 5-1 win away to the
Market
Inn
B
,
firmly cementing the
Sandwich
side to the bottom. John Skinner (1890) won the
first leg for the only
Market
Inn
B
success, then Roger Oldfield beat Derek Latham by just
110 points. Mark Graves opened the final singles
with a 2440 break, Ted Hogben fought back, but
Graves
emerged victorious by 3800-2550. Oldfield &
Graves beat Latham & Craig Carlson after an
unlucky black-peg for Latham in the first doubles, and
the final two doubles also fell to the Fitz.
The
Plough & Harrow from Bridge found form in beating
the
Royal
Oak
5-1
at home. Ian
Dennett scored 14040 in his leg, including breaks of
4960, 3200 and 3850.
Mark Maher (2050) made it 2-0, and then Keith
Symes beat Alan Smith 7810-1940 for 3-0.
Victory was assured after the first doubles
when Dennett & Baz Symes beat Smith & Stuart
Richardson
4950-3000, the next leg also went to the Plough, and
the Oak’s consolation point came in the final frame
as Richard Cousens & Alan Smith scored 4770.
The
Magnet A drew with the
Market
Inn
A

in Deal. Alan
Farra just beat John Higgens 2000-1860, and Gareth
Butcher (2180) made it 2-0, before Mike Callanan
(3120) narrowed the deficit.
The first doubles was taken 3590-3380 by Mike
Callanan & John Higgens against Gareth Butcher
& Dave Carliell, followed by a win for Mike &
Lin Callanan to put the Magnet 3-2 up.
Christine Farra & Alan Farra took the final
leg to salvage the draw for the visitors.
The
Alma
's
latest victory in Division Two was 5-1 at home to the
Butchers Arms. Rick Cowdrey (2740) put the
Alma
ahead, before a calamitous singles defeat for John
Mitchell as he black-pegged on a 4000 break, losing a
3100 score and handing victory to a grateful Daryl
Pemble. Harry Pearson pipped Doug Vickers
1770-1740, sinking the last ball and regaining the
lead for the
Alma
.
Paul Callanan & John Mitchell took the first
doubles, and then Bill Edwards partnered first Pearson
and then Cowdrey to successive wins to secure the
bonus points.
The Magnet B are looking strong in the runners-up spot
after a 5-1 win away to the Brickmakers A. Steve
Philpott (3130) won his singles to make it an
impressive 8 wins from 8 played this campaign. Tanya
Philpott and Rob Robertson both won close frames to
make it 3-0 after the singles. Alan Holmwood
& Ann Garlinge won the first doubles for the
Brickies for their point, the next doubles went the
Magnet way, and the final frame was won by Tanya
Philpott & Chris Gent, 2250-1690 against Paul
Garlinge & Alan Holmwood.
The
Brickmakers B continue to challenge for second place
after a 4.5-1.5 win at the Fitzwalter Arms B.
Nick Corck put the Brickies 1-0 up; Simon Hart
(2760) made it 2-0, before an excellent win for Nigel
Scott against Simon Jones 3470-2900 for a Fitz point.
Corck & Hart won a close first doubles,
2390-1670 against Scott & Gemma Williams, and the
next doubles also went to the Brickies to secure match
victory. A
remarkable final frame was drawn, 1960 each between
Lee Byford & Nigel Scott and Simon Hart &
Simon Jones, after Hart potted the final ball down the
200 to level the scores.
The
Plough & Harrow drew 3-3 with the Greyhound in
Tilmanstone, as the
Sandwich
side battle to avoid the wooden spoon.
Sam Fuller won the first leg, after Karen Keen
unluckily black-pegged after the bar had dropped.
Daniel Jackson (5080) extended the Greyhound
lead, before Ann Keen (2120) took the first Plough
point. Karen
& Ann Keen (4820) won the first doubles, but Sam
Fuller & Dave McNeily just edged Brian Carpenter
& Karen Keen 2310-2280 to regain the lead.
Ann Keen & Carpenter took the final frame
and a share of the spoils.
