The week started early for the league leaders, the Plough & Harrow from Bridge, as they played a rearranged fixture last Monday against the Chantry Club from Canterbury.  The Chantry, playing at home, won the game 5-1 and temporarily topped the table, before having a bye the following day.  The Chantry were in sparkling form, as they won all three singles which included scores of 8870 for Mick Nichol and 9170 for John Fullager.  Keith Symes & Ian Dennett picked up the only point for the Plough in the doubles.
The next day the Plough & Harrow team travelled to Sandwich and beat the Greyhound B 4-2.  Things looked bright for the home side early on as they took the first two singles, with wins for Derek Latham (5040) and Daniel Jackson (5670), but the final singles was won by Keith Symes before Baz Winters played and won all three doubles legs with Ian Dennett, Paddy Meher and Keith Symes for the 4-2 victory and the league leadership restored.
The Alma A moved clear into third with a 4-2 victory away to the Magnet A.  Mike Callanan produced the highest break of the season so far, 10990, to take the first game for the Magnet, before Tim Bourner levelled for the Alma.  Chris Saville opened with a break of 4900 to beat Lin Callanan and give the Alma the lead.  In the first doubles leg, Chris & Gill Saville were only leading by 300 points when the bar dropped against John Higgens & Lin Callanan, but Chris was able to finish on the table to extend the lead and win.  The second doubles was equally as close, with Mike & Lin Callanan beating Tim Bourner & John Mitchell 3270-2930.  Mike was 1000 points behind with a minute to play, but was able to get the break back and overhaul the Alma lead.  Chris Saville & Tim Bourner took the final leg and the match, having been leading by just 700 points with 3 minutes remaining.
The final match in the top division saw an impressive 6-0 win for the Lion Hotel at home to the Royal Oak from Nonnington.  The singles saw wins for Tim Hayes (with a score of 6330), Paul Smart & Neville Potts.  Terry Laslett made his first appearance of the season and duly teamed up to win two of the doubles, and the final leg went to Neville Potts and Wack Sampson with a 5780-3280 win over Richard Cousens and Stuart Richardson.
In division 2, the key match was won by leaders the Greyhound A, who travelled to second place Fitzwalter Arms and won 4-2.  Alan Farra maintained his 100% record with a narrow win in the first leg, before Mark Graves game went to the last ball as he beat Gareth Butcher 2660-2630 to level the tie.  The Fitzwalter took the lead for the first and only time as Steve Lake hit a break of 3300, the highest so far in division two, en route to his point.  In such a crucial game for both teams promotion hopes, the doubles remained tight to keep the tension going to the end, with narrow wins for Gareth Butcher & Christine Farra in the first doubles, and then Christine & Alan Farra to give the Greyhound the lead.  The all-important final leg was edged by Dave Carliell & Alan Farra against Steve Lake and Roger Oldfield.
The Plough & Harrow from Tilmanstone moved into third in the table with a 5-1 at the Butchers Arms.  Ron Beer, Brian Carpenter and Ann Keen all won their singles, as the Butchers Arms recorded an unusual dreaded "black peg" against their scores in all three games.  The first doubles saw the only point for the home team as Janet Kershaw and Doug Vickers notched a decent score of 3350.  The final two legs went the way of the Plough, the last leg a narrow 1320-1200 win for Brain Carpenter and Ron Beer against Paul Stevens and Phil Court.
The Alma B recorded a 5-1 at home to the Brickmakers B.  Dave Carter played well as he took the first leg for the Brickies, but that was the only joy for the visitors.  Rick Cowdrey took the second leg for the home side, before an excellent Harry Pearson had a fantastic 4150-3140 win over Simon Jones.  The first doubles leg was won by Dave and Sheila Howarth, but only after Simon Hart (partnering Simon Jones) took the lead as the bar dropped only to lose his break.  Bar billiards can prove a cruel game, as Dave Howarth potted the last two balls to take the frame.  Bill Edwards played strongly in the final two doubles, as he teamed up with first Dave Howarth and then Shirley Cowdrey to win both.
The final fixture of the week was between the Brickmakers A and the Magnet B, and finished 4-2 to the Magnet team.  Paul Garlinge enjoyed a win in the first leg for the Brickmakers, before Ward Griffiths beat Nick Corck in a game that went to the last ball.  The Magnet then took the lead as Steve Philpott triumphed in the final singles frame.  Steve then teamed up with Chris Gent to extend the lead, and Chris in turn partnered Tanya Philpott for a narrow 1480-1260 win over Alan Holmwood and Ann Garlinge.  The Brickmakers, having gone from 1-0 up to 1-4 down, restored some pride with a comprehensive win for Nick Corck and Alan Holmwood in the final frame.
