Group 1 highlights for the weeks round of matches include two very close finishes and two massive scores.

The match between Lin Callanan for Magnet ‘A’ and Anne Cope of Alma ‘A’ was decided by just 80 points in Lin’s favour. The match ended 5-1 to the Magnet, although Bill Edwards continued on his good run by beating Magnet skipper Mike Callanan.

The match between Nick Corck for the Brickmakers Arms ‘A’ and Mick Nichol playing for Chantry ‘A’ was even closer as Nick ‘nicked’ it by a mere 50 points to take his teams only leg of the evening.

The two big scores were Derek Latham’s 8880 (with a break of 7610), in the Greyhound ‘B’ vs Brickmakers ‘B’ fixture (which also included good contributions from Daniel Jackson and Craig Carlson), and one of the highest of the season from Alma ‘A’s Chris Saville with 10140 as they entertained the Plough & Harrow from Bridge, helping to ensure that the Deal side stayed at the top of the table.

More big scores were recorded in this group as Nev Potts, playing for The Lion at Ash knocked in a 7440 against Greyhound ‘A’s Gareth Burcher, after Dave Carliell had levelled the tie for the Sandwich side by beating Paul Smart in the second match on the result card.

Ann Keen for The Plough&Harrow in Tilmanstone scored her seasons best so far with 5970 against Rob Robertson for Magnet ‘B’ in their 6-0 victory.

The Chantry ‘B’ side took advantage of a bye week for the Royal Oak by defeating the Fitzwalter Arms 5-1, and opening up a 10 point lead at the top of the group. This is a huge lead with just two more weeks of the season remaining before we go into the knockout stages.
