Bar Billiards Report April 7th 2002

 

Alma ‘B’ Break Duck.

 

Alma ‘B’ met Brickmakers ‘B’ in the Dover Deal and District Bar Billiards League Spring Cup this week. Neither side had won a match and it was the West Street side that broke their duck, winning 5 – 1. Dave Howarth got his highest score of the campaign with 3310, the highest score of the night. Wins from Harry Pearson and Billy Edwards put the Alma 3 – 0 up. Simon Jones and Brian Gumbrill took the first pairs for the Bricks, before Dave along with Anne Cope narrowly took the second pairs 1240 – 760 to take the match.

 

In the reverse fixture Bricks ‘B’ were not overawed by the visit of Alma ‘A. Nick Corke beat Tim Bourner with a solid 2460 and Alan Holmwood only just lost to Chris Saville after being ahead for the entire game. The rest of the match went to the form book with a 5 – 1 win for the Alma. The win leaves the Alma three points behind the Chantry at the top.

 

Top score of the week went to Tim Hayes of the Lion with 6980 at the Plough & Harrow Tilmanstone, and with Wack Sampson he hit 5830 in the pairs. The Lion ran out 5 – 1 winners and moved up to second in their group. Derek Latham of division 2 Greyhound shone in his teams game at home to high flying Chantry ‘A’. Derek won his singles, ending Kevin Kay’s 100% record and with Craig Carlson hit 5100 in the pairs to take 2 points off the group leaders.

 

This weekend sees the Kent County ‘B’ interleague at the Alma on Saturday, competition starts at 1230hrs. The league are the defending champions and are hoping to complete a unique double, following the ‘A’ sides success. Sunday sees a knock outs day at the Alma with ladies pairs, Over 50’s, Under 22’s and Alternate (triangle rules) Rules competitions. Entries will be accepted at the ‘B’ interleague.
