Dover Deal and District Bar Billiards League Match Reports

Group   1

The Greyhound ‘A’ are long time leaders of Group 1 and are looking good to qualify for the next stage of the competition. So they perhaps were taken a little unawares as they entertained bottom of the table Plough&Harrow from Tilmanstone, and for just the second time in this competition they didn’t take maximum win bonus points as the visitors battled well for a share of the spoils. Janet Dale and Ann Keen won their singles and were joined by Brian Carpenter in the doubles. The final leg was important as  the Greyhound had to win to ensure that they didn’t lose, which they managed by just 300 points!

The other match in group 1, Plough&Harrow, Bridge vs Royal Oak, also ended all square, where Chris Cook for the home side top scored with an impressive 6990.

Group   2

The two qualifiers for the next stage from group 2 look to be decided, as the Chantry Club and the Lion are tied at the top of the table, with the third placed team, Alma ‘A’, 10 points adrift. All the top three teams were at home this week and all three had big wins. They Chantry ended Greyhound ‘B’ hopes of qualification with a 5-1 win in which both John Fullager and Mick Nichol scored over 8000 points. Craig Carlson took the consolation leg for the visitors. The Lion from Ash went one better and beat their opponents 6-0 with Tim Hayes top scoring with 7600. The Alma also won 6-0, but will probably not be enough to see them through the first round.
