Dover Deal and District Bar Billiards League Match Reports

Group   1

With a couple of good wins over the Easter period, the ‘A’ team from the Greyhound in Sandwich have managed to extend their lead in Group 1 of the Spring Cup competition, with the away win to second placed Bridge team Plough&Harrow the highlight. Halfway through the season they are now 9 points clear, with Alma ‘B’  and Royal Oak trailing a further 12 points behind the Plough&Harrow.

Deals Oak&Ivy have twice produced excellent results away from home, on both occasions coming close to taking the winners bonus points. Firstly at the Magnet, the home team looked doomed to a defeat as they were  3-2 down in legs and behind in points as the bar dropped. Unluckily for the Oak&Ivy Lin Callanan potted the red ball into the 200 hole to get them the last leg 1440-1280. The following week, against the Greyhound ‘B’, they again found themselves 3-2 with one to play (with pick of the scores Stuart Pearcy’s 5920 against Derek Crittel) thanks to wins for Clive Bullen, Eric Newman & Clive and Derek & Clive. However, the visitors last pairing of Derek & Eric were unable to match Craig Carlson and Daniel Jackson.

Given the format of the Spring Cup (all shots to be played from the centre of the ‘D’) , it is should be more of a challenge to get high scores, but that didn’t stop the Lions Tim Hayes from posting the seasons top score and his 10,500 will surely not be bettered?

Other News

Following on from the success of our team in the ‘A’ interleague competition earlier this year (where they finished runners-up), we entered two teams into the ‘B’ interleague and our ‘B’ team went one better and won the title, albeit the hard way. After 1 defeat and 2 draws which left them close to the bottom of the table, they went on to take their next 3 matches to beat the team from Medway by the closest of margins. Congratulations to skipper Kev Brocklebank and his team - Alan Farra, Andrew Sampson, Ann Keen, Chris Cook, John Higgens, Ken Clark and Stan Brocklebank. Our ‘C’ team, most of them playing in this level of competition for the first time, also had a good day finishing fifth, and beating the ‘B’ team on the way, so well done to the team of Stuart Pearcy, Craig Carlson, Daniel Jackson, Dave Carliell, Dave Mackworth, Lin Callanan, Mark Callanan, Sheila Howarth and Stuart Richardson.
