Dover Deal and District Bar Billiards League Match Reports

Group   1

The match at the Alma as their ‘B’ side entertained fellow Dealers Magnet ‘B’ wasn’t the highest scoring match of the week, but it was the only one to produce a win, which the home team took 4-2. Paul Callanan for the home side started the ball rolling for the Alma with possibly the lowest winning score for some time - 480 (the ‘off the spot’ format of this competition is still catching some players out). But the visitors then took the next two legs thanks to Tanya Philpott and Graham Oxley (who made the highest score of the evening). But then the Alma took all three doubles legs, with Harry Pearson causing most of the damage with some consistent potting.

The Greyhound from Sandwich travelled to the Royal Oak in Nonington for their match, and managed to produce some strange results. The first two of their singles legs were played by Alan Farra and Dave Carleill, and they ended with exactly the same score 860, which won Dave his leg but was not enough against Alans opponent Alan Smith. In the fourth leg Farra and Carliell scored 2460, exactly the same score as their final leg, this time played by Farra and Gareth Butcher!

Mike Callanan  for Magnet ‘A’ versus Ted Batchelor for Alma ‘A’ was a good game with Ted opening with 2150, and that is usually good enough to win a leg, but Mike responded with 5040, his best score of the season so far. Just 10 points separated Lin Callnan&John Higgens for the Magnet and Ted&John Mitchell for the visitors with Lin potting the red into the 200 pocket to take the leg.

Some exceptionally high scoring was seen at the Lion in Ash as they entertained division leaders Chantry Club. First up for the home team was Nev Potts who scored the season highest score so far 7410, including a seasons best break of 6400. That lasted until the next frame as Roger Standon for the visitors went on to make a break of 6770 in his total of 8690. The next frame produced a 5000+ score from the lions Tim Hayes, the next was won with 4500 from Roger and John Fullager, the fifth went to the home team with 7050 from Paul Smart and Nev and the last frame saw an aggregate score of 10550 as Tim and Paul chalked up 4190, against the 6360 of Mick Nichol and Roger Standon. So not all players are finding ‘off the spot’ too difficult?
