Magnet Too Strong for Plough and Harrow.

Magnet ‘B’ raced to only their second win in the Dover Deal and District Bar Billiards League Spring Cup with a 5 – 1 victory at the Plough and Harrow Tilmanstone. In doing so Cliff Jarrett and Rob Robertson hit the second best pairs score of the week with 4410. Husband and wife combination Tanya and Steve Philpott took two of the singles with 1030 and 2610. Steve finished undefeated on the night with two victories in the pairs playing with Tanya and Rob Robertson. Plough’s only point came from home skipper Ann Keen.

The big clash in group 2 saw Alma ‘A’ entertaining the Chantry. Chantry ran out 4 – 2 winners with John Fullager hitting the highest score of the week with 5250. Mick Nichol and Kevin Kay hit the highest pairs score with 4710. Alma, the league champions, are now in severe danger of not qualifying from their group. Lion kept up the pressure on the Chantry, despite dropping two points at the Oak and Ivy, Derek Crittell winning both his pairs along with Mark Golding and Clive Bullen for the Oak.

The big surprise this week is Terry Laslett of the Lion making the final of the Open Singles. He defeated Gary Clarke of the Royal Oak thanks to a superb 6500 break in the final leg on the Plough and Harrow Tilmanstone. Finals night will be at the Alma on Tuesday May 15th.
